Eid gift for neighbour

I'm looking for advice because I don't want to do the wrong thing. I picked up a little Eid card and a box of chocolates to hand into my neighbour for Eid (I'm non Muslim). I've just thought are the chocs halal?! It's a box of milk tray? I didn't really think about it till I got home, there's no gelatin or anything like that in the ingredients, but also nothing to explicitly say halal.
Am I overthinking or would I offend her if I gave them in?

Thanks

Hi @Expectingbetter welcome to the Muslim mumsnetters board ♡

such a kind gesture 🙂. absolutely fine to give chocs and card. milky tray doesn't tend to contain any non halal ingredients. things don't have to be halal certified if they don't contain meat tbh. as long as gelatine and alcohol free and labelled vegetarian, its totally fine 🙂

Hi @Expectingbetter a quick rule of thumb is that if a food says 'suitable for vegetarians ' and is alcohol free, it's probably safe. If your neighbour's like me, they'd probably love the gesture even if it turned out they couldn't eat it for some reason - it feels really nice for someone to have thought about it and got a gift at all!

I’m just hopping onto your thread to check if it’s Eid tomorrow or today? I’m dropping a card into my neighbour and wouldn’t want to get it wrong.

Parkingt111 · 08/04/2024 15:34

@OutOfTheHouse it hasn't been announced yet but will most likely be tomorrow or Wednesday
We should be finding out in the next few hours so I will update you once we do 😊 also how kind of you, I'm sure your neighbour will be very happy

wouldn't worry too much about getting the day right. there is so much variation on the day among Muslims. no one will be too hung up about it 🙂

I'm wondering about this!, my husband follows the U.K. moon rather than the Saudi moon and it's usually a day behind I think? I'm trying to work out when the last day of fasting is.... I think he's going to say it's Wednesday, fingers crossed 🤞🏽

need to bake him his favourite cake for the final dinner on the final day :)

Elopelo · 08/04/2024 16:39

Hi OP you sound like a lovely neighbour! Milk tray is fine.

Also Saudi have just announced on their Twitter/X page that they couldn’t see the moon tonight so Eid will be on Wednesday.

Parkingt111 · 08/04/2024 17:14

@GoingRoundInOvals Saudi has just said Wednesday right now as the moon wasn't sighted today. I believe this is going to be one of the rare Eids where everyone does it together

Parkingt111 · 08/04/2024 17:16

@GoingRoundInOvals also how lucky Is your DH, hope your cake comes out lovely 😍

He's a very lovely DH so although I'm not Muslim, I try to make Ramadan as easy as possible on him and make a big fuss of him during Eid!

hope everyone on this thread has a great celebration and fingers crossed for the moon sighting sooner rather than later!
