Break-up playlist suggestions anyone?

A close friend has just broken up with her BF after a few years together. They had tried relationship counselling, had previously been talking about marriage and kids.. anyway, all quite sad.

She lives over three hours away from me so I can't pop over and give her a big hug and down a few bottles of wine with her like I want to.. so I thought I'd make her a 'thinking of you at this time' play list. But I'm feeling somewhat uninspired (just had DC3, very few brain cells left).

So far I've got:

Olive - You're not alone ('it is the distance that makes life a little hard' - v true)
Candi Staten - you've got the love (or Florence I suppose)

ummmmm... that's it

She's at the 'I still love him' stage rather than the 'Bastard' stage.

Any suggestions welcome!! Thanks

gloria gaynors 'i will survive' of course!!

MmeLindt · 21/06/2010 11:16

Gloria Gaynor is a must.

I would go for songs that are uplifting and energising.

Destiny's Child - Survivor

Pink - So What?

Christina Aguilera - Stronger

Nothing by The Smiths.

Or Leonard Cohen.

MinnieMummy · 21/06/2010 11:25

Yes, 'Last night I dreamt somebody loved me' might be a little tactless... !

at the non-additions to the playlist. Best leave off anything by Celine Dion and Whitney Houston too.

Bump for the evening crowd... [while wondering why I am finding it much easier to think of inappropriate songs, BAD friend]

I'll be there for you

MmeLindt · 21/06/2010 22:02

You could go really schmalzy and put "You've got a friend" but that will just make her blub.

MinnieMummy · 22/06/2010 18:17

Oooh I quite like that actually MmeLindt. Due to her boyf and me having three DCs we really haven't spoken as much as we should/used to over the last few years so that would be a nice way of saying 'still here for ya'.

It prob won't make her blub, she's quite hard. I however am blinking v quickly right now

Aww this is so thoughtful of you Minnie, I'm sure she'll really appreciate it. Don't add Adele; she always get's me teary eyed! You can't go wrong with Gloria Gaynor and how about Don't Speak by No Doubt? Although she isn't at the 'mad at him' stage yet, Whitney's It's Not Right But It's Ok or Beyonce's Irreplaceable might give her a boost.
