I have just watched Roxy Music documentary on BBC Four. I remember being very derogatory about Bryan Ferry & CO. when I was 18.

Was dancing in my slippers. Where is the best place to start for a roxy music perspective please. Thanks so much

listen to the old albums first - they're better than Avalon and the later ones. We've got a really fab DVD, I think it's Hammersmith Apollo, about 7 or 8 years ago - not like they used to be but the music is amazing.

Thanks for that. Some of their songs don't seem to have dated at all: funny how your taste in music changes. Are there any songs which you appreciate now that you wouldn't have 20 years ago? I'm not just talking Roxy Music.

loads! DH is really into music and has been buying lots of stuff on vinyl. I mean lots and lots, we have boxes of the stuff all over the house. Mainly 60s and 70s but other things too. It's just listening to the music without preconceptions I guess.
However, most things from say 25 years ago, eg mid 80s, I can really leave and not take.

LittlePushka · 23/01/2010 00:50

Thin Lizzy/Elvis Costello.Billy ragg...did not have a CLUE what they were about in the lat seventies/early eighties....

...but no? Must say, big respect!!

aggiebax · 23/01/2010 00:54

I've just discovered John Martyn and Nick Drake - both of them are great. I do like the mid 80's OMD. Depeche Mode, ska style music from that era.

OMD...! Loved them at twelve, still love them thirty years later. Brilliant concerts!! Always "got" OMD.

I did not get Elvis,...but saw him in a Hawaii concert recording and I was totally glued to the box!!

Will not ever ever ever get the Carpenters,...if I do, just come and shoot me!

MavisEnderby · 23/01/2010 01:05

on an 80's theme, have always quite liked Prince but have just downloaded a best of type album and am listening atm

It is AWESOME!

aggiebax · 23/01/2010 01:11

Aah LittlePushka, if you got OMD there must be some other eletric/synth style band out there that tickled your fancy.. C'mon did early Tears for fears do it for you or was it Gary Numan and friends electric? To be honest U2 made me put lighters in the air and imagine that Bono was singing just for me!!!

Think I am getting The Eagles, slowly though, it is a bit touch and go.

Amazon offered me some free downloads so I'm now listening to Depeche Mode.

LittlePushka · 24/01/2010 00:09

OoooHHHHH....love Depeche Mode too. Are you travelling back in time Still Crazy?? I had electric blue mascara...and was, of course ultra beautiful as a result. Did you have a floppy flick back wedge hair cut I wonder...

moondog · 24/01/2010 00:12

Flesh & Blood is a cracker.

Reminds me of long lazy summers as a 14 year old.Helped that my mother loves Bryan.

StillCrazyAfterAllTheseYears · 24/01/2010 16:22

LittlePushka - I didn't have the haircut but I did used to wear some very lurid eye makeup. Fuchsia pink eye shadow and electric blue mascara was always good for an understated look, I found. I think the travelling back in time is involuntary - the recent cover version of Just Can't Get Enough propelled me down memory lane!

Thank you, Moondog, for letting us know that your mum loves Bryan. I'll just pick up my pension book and toddle off now.
