what music/bands are 8 year old girls into?

Hi! This is the first time I've posted as i can usually get my answers by searching threads but I'm stuck with this one. My DD struggles with friendships and I have been trying to help and encourage her. She is keen to fit in and I am wondering what sort of music do 8/9 year old girls listen to. She's not really into HSM or Hannah Montana and although my DH and I listen to lots of music it is sadly limited (me) and not current or appropriate for an 8 yr old(DH). I realise she needs to develop her own tastes but I would like to start her off with what her friends may be listening to. She's dreading a pop star party this weekend because she doesn't know the music. Looking forward to lots of replies

Hey! My 8yo DD hates HM and HSM, too, nice to year she's not the only 8yo who doesn't get them.

DD knows what her Dad exposes us all to (he likes early 70s stuff or similar, and otherwise works with early 20 year olds). So DD recognises a lot of Abba, Beatles, Cold Play, Killers, The Editors, Lady Gaga, Girls Aloud, Lily Allen, Michael Jackson. HTH.

Amy Winehouse, too, is probably gonna feature at the party.

Oh, and Take That/Robbie Williams. Okay, I've bumped this enough now .

Thankyou all so much. That really helps. Her Dad is into 70/80's rock so doesn't feature in most 8-9 yr old girls' play lists. I'd forgotten mama Mia - she loved the film but not got much of the music. Will start downloading some stuff for her ipod

Both my DDs like songs in the charts but not neccessarily everything that artist does. The compilation cds are a good place to get ideas.

Well, mine is 9 - and apart from the obvious HSM and Miley she likes: Rihanna, Jordin Sparks, Girls Aloud/Cheryl Cole, Kylie, Pixie Lott, Little Boots, La Roux, Lady Gaga, Ting Tings, Kaiser Chiefs, Athlete, Pink, Sophie Ellis Bextor, The Killers, Amy Macdonald, Alesha, Take That... and some older stuff I have downloaded for her like The Primitives, Eurythmics, Kim Wilde, Eighth Wonder, the Pet Shop Boys and ABBA!
