Saw a really interesting documentary about Johnny Cash on BBC2 a couple of weeks ago,i had never heard any of his music before apart from Ring of Fire. Went on youtube afterwards and found this

In that case, you must watch the film with Joaquin Phoenix in. Apparently Johnny Cash and June Carter worked closely with the scriptwriters. I started listening to his music more after watching it.

Here you go - it's called Walk the Line

it's a fab film. love discovering old musicians always better than recent ones.

i only discovered bob dylan fairly recently apart from an old greatest hits tape we had knocking about he's just never been on my radar, although my mum & dad were both pretty big fans of his back in the day. that's another really good film - i'm not there.

also in the genius singer/songwriter vein nick drake and elliott smith were new to me only a couple of years ago. i keep meaning to listen to more elliott smith as the one album of his i play on rotation (figure 8) is wonderful.

Yes, Muse. I don't know how they escaped my notice for so long.

Johnny Cash - was indeed a wonderful singer and Joaquin Phoenix was outstanding in the film.

Another recent off the wall 'discovery' for me was Matt Monro.

Born Free

The Impossible Dream

From Russia With Love

On Days Like These (Intro to the Italian Job)

He was orignally a bus driver in London. Saw a great documentary on him recently and he was not only a fantastic singer and was also a genuinely nice family man who died too young.

Do go on YouTube and have a wallow listen. Wow. I am feeling mellow tonight.
