I had never heard of them until the Brits, was it a small gig?

glad you had a good time....!!!!

piratecat · 12/03/2009 11:12

hi, well i got their first album just after dd was born 7 yrs back. It had a beautiful track on it called Newborn.

I sort of forgot about them, til this new album came out. The great thing about them is they are prob about my age late 30's, and the lead singer had the most beautiful yet raw voice.

The gig had about 5000, and they had some strings, organ etc... Between each song the singer was 'everyone ok' and chatting. He said that we were the most chilled crowd they'd played to on the tour so far. It's rare that bands come down this far to Devon, and he said they were glad they had!!

it's the Devon air you know!!

Oh, I'm glad they were good - we're seeing them at Wembley Arena on Saturday, but doubt it will be warm and intimate .

piratecat · 12/03/2009 11:21

they make it that way tho!! the singer ( must find out if he Does have a name) is like this normal norther guy, and just dare i say it 'nice'!!!

here's the track that used to get me when dd was born, the one that got me into them.

Newborn

Guy Garvey - very nice. What song did they start with?

piratecat · 12/03/2009 11:42

I saw Muse when Elbow supported them too- it was at Wembley I think. I couldn't stand Elbow then, Muse were amazing though. Now I really like Elbow, especially "One Day Like This" - it was amazing at Glastonbury (not that I was there, it was on TV)

piratecat · 12/03/2009 11:53

you must have seen them on the same tour i did, we got there late and missed Elbow

MrsJamin · 12/03/2009 11:58

oh, lucky you! ;) I'm not sure whether I'd like their earlier stuff more now. I just thought they were the most boring band in the world, back then.

MyChemicalToilet · 12/03/2009 11:58

Yes, known as the beardy crumpet of the thinking lady . I'm getting very excited now.

I agree Muse live are most excellent - I was remarking yesterday to DP they seem to have gone quiet, must be making a new album I suppose.

MrsMcCluskey · 12/03/2009 12:00

They are playing in my home town tonight, I meant to buy tix and forgot. Am gutted now.

NorbertDentressangle · 14/03/2009 21:17

How strange! I've just found this thread which was typed Thursday, the day we saw Elbow in Newport.

They were absolutely superb. Guy Garvey is a God and I think I've got a bit of a crush on him .

He just writes the most beautiful lyrics, has an amazing voice and is so funny. In between songs he was so entertaining.

Its the first gig I've been to in years (used to go to a couple a week BC) and its given me the bug to see lots more.

spursmummy · 15/03/2009 08:35

I saw Elbow last night at Wembley and they were fantastic. It'll probably be the only gig I'll see this year and I'm glad because they're at their peak and I don't think anyone could top them.

I love Guy Garvey too! I wish his 6 music show wasn't on so late, I could listen to him talk for days.

pavlovthecat · 15/03/2009 08:36

piratecat, my friend went to see them in Plymouth too, he said they were fab too.

woodenchair · 15/03/2009 09:22

I saw them at wembley last night too spursmummy, weren't they great!

They were so chuffed to be there, it was really nice to see a band who aren't up their own arses

spursmummy · 15/03/2009 09:27

Definitley woodenchair, they seemed to love it and the crowd were great too, the atmosphere was brilliant. Definitely one of my best ever gigs. Just a shame to have to get back to real life today

MyChemicalToilet · 16/03/2009 08:41

Belatedly joining the throng - they were absolutely superb on Saturday. Charming, funny and his voice was angelic. One of my best gigs too

piratecat · 16/03/2009 14:41

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh goody, just found my thread again, and was hoping for some other gushy loved up Elbow loving comments!!!

i just checked out you tube and the Plymouth one has been recoreded by many a mobile phone. The album hasn't been off my car player since
