Need help compiling a playlist for a friend's 40th.

I'd start with something like this

CD 5 pretty horrid though - you need only rip the good uns. Then maybe tracks from her yoof!

Any more ideas now. Have been looking through track listings for compilation CD's and have lots of downloading to do, but need enough for 4 hours.

They're 40? I'd go with a mixture of Motown and 80s - that's what works when I DJ 40ths or weddings. Buy yourself the Motown Gold pack - all the 60s hits over three CDs for a tenner. That's a big chunk sorted.
