I just seen this on the Times online. Very sad.

GentleOtter · 29/01/2009 18:27

That is a shock and really sad. I loved his music.

MrsTweedy · 29/01/2009 18:29

How sad; he was comparatively young but he hadn't been in good health for a long time.

'Solid Air' is my most favourite album ever.

May you never lay your head down,
without a hand to hold...

fryalot · 29/01/2009 19:22

may you never make your bed out in the cold

I am so sorry to hear this.

RaggedRobin · 29/01/2009 21:17

been watching this all evening. very sad.

MsHighwater · 29/01/2009 21:19

My DH is sad about this, too. He was quite a fan - and former schoomate - of John Martyn aka Ian McGeachie.

RIP

I'm much sadder about this than I should be. John Martyn was the soundtrack to my childhood, thanks to my mum playing his albums to us (who needs nursery rhymes when you have Solid Air?)
RIP

MrsMuddle · 29/01/2009 22:12

I'm sorry to hear this. But I saw him do a concert about 8 years ago, and to be honest he was in a bad way then. I am surprised he lived until now. We've been playing Solid Air tonight and having a wee dram in his memory.

Hassled · 29/01/2009 22:16

Oh no - I saw him in concert many times in my youth - early-mid 1980s. A top guy.

SheherazadetheGoat · 29/01/2009 22:19

'may you never lay your head down' is one of my fav. songs.

moondog · 29/01/2009 22:24

Amazing that only 60.
Fond memories of getting shitfaced mellow to 'May you never' with squeeze of the time.

oopsagain · 29/01/2009 22:31

I love that song
and i love the slurring.
solid air is truly fab

yama · 29/01/2009 22:36

My Dad will be really upset by this. Bet he's sitting with a whiskey and a bunch of memories.

Barking · 29/01/2009 22:38

'May you never' is such a beautiful gentle song. Very sad.
