Help - I need inspiration!

(Sorry, for not posting on the wedding thread - you all know each other and I'm too shy! (and too lazy to read all the other messages))

OOps, meant to say it's a civil ceremony in a very casual setting, also known as a bar.

we had beach boys "god only knows" after we did the deed, raised a smile with its opening line.
didn't do the first dance thing, always fantasised that it would be "nobody does it better" by carly simon
best first dance at someone else's wedding ' let's get married" by the proclaimers, great lyrics

nannyeggnogg · 18/12/2008 18:15

We left Reg.office to the sound of Songs of Love by The Divine Comedy, AKA the theme tune to Father Ted.

mrsmaidamess · 18/12/2008 18:15

I played (ponce alert, altho it really worked as it was a Christmas wedding) the soundtrack from the film The Piano.

aGalChangedHerName · 18/12/2008 18:16

You're still the one by Shania Twain. V cheesy but very apt for us.

First dance was Billy Joel was I love you just the way you are. Again v apt

MerlinsBeard · 18/12/2008 18:17

oh do join! I felt the same but they are LOVELY!!

I had Animal Crackers from Armageddon (DH re did it without any vocals!), during the signing the register we had tiny dancer by elton john and You Are by Jimmy Wayne and as we left we had Signed Sealed Delivered -Stevie Wonder It made everyone laugh

Was a civil ceremony

theSuburbanDryad · 18/12/2008 18:18

We had the acoustic version of "Lovecats" by the Cure.

nobodysfool · 18/12/2008 18:36

I walked down the aisle and had our first dance to Louis Armstrong-All the time in the world.
Still chokes me up when i hear it.

SpecialOffer · 18/12/2008 18:41

We played Ronan Keating (I love him!!) when you say nothing as I walked dpwn the aisle - so fab, brought tears to my eyes on the day.

We also chose, My song - Elton for signing the register, and Two hearts by Phil Collins.

We walked out to Guns and roses - sweet child of mine!!

First dance was Amazed - Lonestar

It took us ages to choose!

Google wedding songs and you will find lists, we then used you tube to listen to them all.

AliceTheCamelHasGotTheHump · 18/12/2008 18:46

We specified NO MUSIC for our wedding. They obviously decided we ought to have something, so we wandered in to the strains of "Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong" and everyone sniggered.

mazzystartled · 18/12/2008 18:53

oh yes very important to pick something - my mate got muzak version of "sailing" played on the panpipes.

MerlinsBeard · 18/12/2008 18:55

we also had Lonestar - amazed for our first dance but felt justified as we do actually have one of their albums

Salleroo · 18/12/2008 19:04

Fly me to the moon, I've got you under my skin?

We had Sade's By your side for our first dance, sung by a friend who didnt know it until the morning of the wedding. Would have preferred Fly me to the moon.

leoleomakingalist · 18/12/2008 19:14

Celine Dion - Power of Love
Michael Bolton - Soul Provider

Jack Johnson - Better Together

I'm not even married but every time I hear those songs I imagine my wedding.

kaliope · 24/12/2008 01:50

SuburbanDryad - that is great!

We had First Day of My Life (Bright Eyes)

wem · 24/12/2008 02:01

strings version of everlong by foo fighters
Sigur Ros - Glosoli
The Divine Comedy - In Pursuit of Happiness

Base · 24/12/2008 02:08

gravity by embrace

eidsvold · 24/12/2008 03:50

we had the sonnet - how do I love thee - put to music sung by a choir.

Tortington · 24/12/2008 03:52

i had what ignorant people have, NO, not KYLIE... the here comes the bride thing.

mayorquimby · 24/12/2008 09:36

sigur ros for your wedding?
you = my new idol

HolidaysQueen · 24/12/2008 09:55

we had a civil ceremony, although relatively traditional i suppose with aisle etc.

We had a pianist play an arrangement of Kissing You by Desree. the opening chords and the twiddly bits make it a real spine-tingler for walking down the aisle. one of my best friends (FlossieT on MN) sang songbird by fleetwood mac beautifully during the register signing, and we then went all traditional and walked out to a bit of Handel as my DH and I love grand music

first dance was only you by yazoo - words are a bit wistful for a wedding really but we both adore the song, think vince clarke is a bit of a pop genius, and could dance to it!

rarebreed · 24/12/2008 10:10

Am not married, but think about this quite a lot

LOVE Kissing You by Desree

Ella Fitzgerald - Misty

Both of those songs make me cry every time i hear them

Also,

Paul Weller - You do something to me
Dean Martin - Ain't that a kick in the head

wem · 24/12/2008 10:19

mayorquimby -

not sure my mum was too keen. Her comment was "What was that music? Oh right, Was that your choice then?" Err, yeah...

LouMacca · 24/12/2008 10:27

Had civil ceremony and walked up aisle to Bob Marley 'One Love'.

Had Paul Weller 'You Do Something To Me' as the first dance.
