Is it time I bought an ipod?

(first posted this in chat then saw this topic)

Right - need something to play music on. We had a cheapish CD player/radio but the kids manhandled that to breaking point last year, and to make do since then we've been playing CDs through the DVD player on telly or computer.

Is it about time I joined the modern world and bought an ipod and speaker/docking station thing? ( to say that I only recently found out exactly what you did with an ipod)

DH thinking of investing in an iphone and using that to download any music we want. Has anyone got one of those? Am also thinking that if he's using it as his mobile then it's not going to be much use to me if he's out and I want to play music at home is it?

Once you've got an ipod/iphone or whatever do you just download everuything and never buy CDs again?

Is the ipod going to be the standard music player in the same way that VHS soon won the battle of the VHS/Betamax thing in the 80s? It's just that most speakers/docking things advertise themselves as having an ipod dock, and also a separate input wotsit for other playback devices.

God, I feel really in the dark about all this, and WAAAAAAAAAAAAY behind with the technology.

Hasten to add though that I HAVE got a radio that also makes toast (or a toaster that also plays music if you prefer) - ha! How many of you can say you've got one of THOSE, (even though it DOES make crap toast, and is, er, also shite as a radio.)

i have an ipod - after using various other makes of mp3 over more years than you'd believe - yes they have been around a good while
you can "rip" stuff from cd's and synchronise your ipod, so cd's that you have already got can all go on.
If you want to download stuff, itunes is great but there are plenty of others too, even amazon has its own mp3 music section and is cheaper than ahem ithinkyouknowwho

loads of options for speakers and docking thingys, again go nose round the internet and you will be enlightened

have fun

btw, I hope you enjoy erm tunes-on-toast or whatever you do with the fancy other piece of kit
Don't you have to buy jam ever again?????

CurlyhairedAssassin · 14/12/2008 12:36

Didn't know you can do the ripping business. Thought I'd have to just download CDs I've already got. Amazing what you learn on here!

LOL at the jam joke.
