Ds1 has just strummed "Smoke on the Water" on his guitar!

And he did it by picking out the chords himself. No sheet music.

I should deny him lessons more often. makes him more driven to figure things out on his own.

Watch this space in 10 years I will have a rock star on my hands.

I think that's brill.

How old is he?

I think carry on with the lessons if he has an ear then surely he'll start playing other stuff that interests him.

Ho wlong have you had to enjoy all the rubbish out of tune strumming for then, before this?

wrinklytum · 12/12/2008 21:33

Ah,good choice!!!

dp plays guitar pretty proficiently and is impressed

The flip side is the amount of "Stuff" that such a hobby generates. We have amps, pedals, leads and so on all over the house, and 4 (YES,4!) guitars...

He's 10. He takes violin and keyboard lessons already and then he decides he wants to be a rock star. Too bad I've got no money left for lessons! Told him to figure it out himself. His father got him an excellent book on chords and picking but no songs. He is now trying to figure out a Smashing Pumpkins song!

Did I remember hearng somewhere that Smoke on the Water is the first rock song everyone learns?

wt - I have said a firm NO to electric guitar until he has mastered acoustic.

well done noiamnot's ds

ds2 is getting an acoustic for christmas, had to be a blue one! DP can play but I think I'll get him a few lessons.

noiamnot · 12/12/2008 22:40

how old is he dizzy?

does he play other instruments?

OP posts:
JumpingJingleBellsDizzy · 12/12/2008 22:43

he's 8 and no doesn't play any. He saw dp playing his and wanted one. I've only been with dp 4 months by the way but he's obviously influencing him

off to bed now night x

noiamnot · 12/12/2008 22:49

good influence!

lessons would be helpful then I'd say.

yes he is, he's brilliant with them and adores his own grown up dd. He suggested lessons as dp is self taught.
night x
