I like A Song For You, by the Carpenters. There's a line in it that says "and when my life is over, remember when we were together, we were alone and I was singing this song for you."
It is such a lovely song, it's also quite special to me as it was the song that I always sang to ds when he was born.

hellsbells, I would love to have Ashley Hutchings singing 'Who Knows Where The Time Goes' although I also like Denny singing it. In fact, I would play an awful lot of folk music and watch the majority of the mourners struggling with their inner desire to Run Away.

Sing me to sleep by The Smiths
uk.youtube.com/watch?v=B138KBFhTRw

Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
I'm tired and I
I want to go to bed

Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
And then leave me alone
Don't try to wake me in the morning
'Cause I will be gone
Don't feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart
I will feel so glad to go

Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
I don't want to wake up
On my own anymore

Sing to me
Sing to me
I don't want to wake up
On my own anymore

Don't feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart
I really want to go

There is another world
There is a better world
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Well ...

Bye bye
Bye bye
Bye ...

bentneckwine1 · 22/11/2008 14:34

Sorry Janeite...didn't realise that you had already posted The Smiths...

WillyWonka · 22/11/2008 14:43

Have already instructed dh that I want Rufus Wainwright's version of "Hallelujah" during the service and "Mana Mana" by The Muppets to put a smile on people's faces as they're leaving

bellabelly · 22/11/2008 14:45

Oh, I love the conga idea! I'd like something wildly inappropriate like Black Lace's, Agadoo. Just for the fun of it.

janeite · 22/11/2008 14:45

Great minds Bentneck!

Sorry Pointy: I can't help myself; when I hear James Blunt the gas oven gains a certain scary appeal.

Blandmum · 22/11/2008 14:49

Dh had 'It had to be you' as we walked into the crematorium.

We then sang 'guide me Oh thou great redeemer' and 'I vow to thee my country'

we went out to 'Wild west hero' by ELO

Very very moving.

I'm going to have 'Don't fear the Reaper' and the Lacrimosa from Mozarts requiem

My cousin wants 'Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye'

Blandmum · 22/11/2008 14:51

Dh had put his choices on his Ipod under a play list called, 'Music for whenever' but as well

janeite · 22/11/2008 14:55

MB I am not a weeper by nature but you just made my eyes blink involuntarily a few times.

Vulgar · 22/11/2008 15:05

I've just gulped a few times too MB. What great choices.

Blandmum · 22/11/2008 15:15

What was particularly good about the 'Wild West hero' choice was that 3 days before he died, dh was presented with the MBE for outstanding courage and leadership. So, he really was a hero. He didn't know that when he chose the music, and so it it very much as if it was 'Meant to be' IYSWIM.

Not a dry eye in the building.

pointydog · 22/11/2008 15:38

janetite - I was referring to your choice of asleep. Grim-o.
