Do you ever notice the choices of music used in the background on TV progs? Especially childrens TV

DD is watching Sam and Marks Guide to Dodging Disaster on CBBC at the moment and I couldn't help but notice a succession of music direct from from my CD collection.

None of it is particularly what I would have associated with childrens TV but think its great they've used it rather than the usual pop/boyband "safe" type.

They included:

Violent Femmes
Elbow
Portishead
Lou Reed
Rage Against the Machine (OK, this one was from my younger days admittedly and they had avoiding the extreme swearing bit!)

I tell you what I have noticed, is that adverts for boys-toys are not accompanied by music, but anything 'girly' has someone singing in a sickly way in the background, even if the words really don't scan!
