Not quite ready to handle Glastonbury with dds (4 and 6), but thought it might be good to do a day (not necessarily a whole weekend) at a festival. Any suugestions of where is good with kids and has some decent music?

Was only thinking of a day ticket as we haven't got a family tent.

The Big Chill looks good but would like to
see hear a couple of big names. Although i'd love to see the buzzcocks.

i think trouble with doing one day is you're combining getting onto/off site with trying to get about and get to the stage you're after. so it adds time pressure as well as pressure to at least see somebody, whereas if you camp a) you can always go back to tent for supplies/change of clothes/if it pisses down b) you can always write off a day as there'll be more to do tomoz etc. also c) gives the kids a chance to settle into it, get their bearings etc, i find dd1 always warms up and enjoys it more as w/e goes on. being relaxed about the whole thing helps tremendously.

family tent cheap as chips gwaan do it properly

having said that i always try and stay as long as poss, so maybe listen to someone who's actually done the day thing rather than me

We're going to www.godivafestival.co.uk next weekend.
With the DC's, it's free, but no camping.

That looks fab VS where are you staying then?

Flier · 30/06/2008 11:52

depends where you are but tartan heart festival is excellent, we've been in the past and is very family friendly.

In north of scotland though

That does look good. Unfortunately can't do next weekend as dd is going to see HSM . I know what I'd rather do!

We're only going to do the Saturday and go home afterwards.
I can't be doing with taking DS2 to sleep anywhere else just yet tbh!

I've just spoken to dp and if dd has got over the vomiting bug she started with this morning we may travel down for the day either on Saturday or Sunday.

Went to Womad for a couple of years: v good

Last year did Green Man: vvvvvvvvv bad. The weather was dire and the organisers had made no provision for this (no boards down etc). The tents were packed way too close together, and there weren't enough loos (which were fouler than any festival dh or I had ever been to). They had really sold too many tickets for the suitability of the venue. Many, many people on blogs etc were saying the same thing afterwards. I would avoid this one like the plague!

Those are the sort of things that worry me Fircone.
