Bands you've seen live recently, and what were they like?

Real mixed bag for me, although I had high hopes for all of them:

Santogold - terrible, just terrible. Awful support. Late to come on. Short disjointed and anaemic set. Left the crowd deeply unthrilled.

Bruce Springsteen - absolute legend. Two and a half hour set straight through under a starry summer sky, with a great mix of tracks including loads of the classics. Acoustics were pretty average, but hey, guess that's what you get with a stadium (Emirates)

Vampire Weekend - jaw droppingly brilliant. So good. Punchy energetic and full of verve with a crowd that bounced from start til finish and left buzzing.

So who else has been on recently? Good and bad?

Futureheads, Manics & Foo Fighters (on same bill)

Futureheads - OK, will prob be better in a few years time

Manics - really, really, really good

Foo Fighters - 2 1/4 hours of phenomenal, exceptional fantastically wonderful music. Dave Grohl is a brilliant frontman

King Creosote at a teeny venue last week
Fabuloso

Arcade Fire last yr at Brixton. Pretty mesmerising, tho we had crap seats. Time flew, sign of a good gig.

Reverend and the Makers at the Uni here in Newcastle -very good and sweaty. He knows how to whip the crowd up!

Richard Hawely at the Sage up here - great too.

Christie Moore. Ok if you like that kinda thing.!

cyteen · 11/06/2008 14:48

Iklboo, I'm surprised at the Futureheads - I've seen them four or five times and they've always been fantastic, tight as fuck and really rocking, great at engaging the audience etc. But then I think the Manics are utter shit so maybe we just have different taste

kings of leon at wembley, was ok but hate wembley as a venue

niceglasses · 11/06/2008 14:52

oooohhh Kings of Leon. Swoon.

talilac · 11/06/2008 15:28

I was at Wychwood too! I really loved the Divine Comedy show. Europop was particularly great I thought.

cestlavie · 11/06/2008 15:32

Ohhhh. Had tickets for Arcade Fire at Ally Pally last Novemeber and then completely stupidly booked a weekend away for the same weekend without realising. Gutted.

I saw The Charlatans a few weeks ago and they were fab. The support was absolutely dreadful though, really boring and they mumbled.

bluefox · 11/06/2008 15:50

TPL -The Charlatans . Im working at T in the Park soon and hope to arrange my break while they are on!

mrspnut · 11/06/2008 15:55

I wanted to see the Charlatans but it clashed with the Moonwalk.

I have seen the Fratellis recently (absolutely awesome - Rock City was dancing and singing along all night)

Supergrass - New stuff a bit poor but they played quite a few oldies which made the night special.

Reverend and the Makers - Really amazing, and he finished it off outside by the waterfront.

FrogPrincess · 12/06/2008 11:28

Mindless Self Indulgence in April - they are brilliant, but not for the easily offended...

30Seconds to Mars 3 times - they are fantastic live.

My chemical Romance last Nov - Much better than I thought they were going to be after seeing them live on TV.

Went to the Give it a Name Festival last month and loved The Blackout, Silverstein, Billy Talent and 30stm!
