Isn't she just great? I love this album, it's definitely going to be in my top 3 of 2008.

Oh yes, I've just got it. Fab, I really like it.
Who else do you like? I also discovered devon Sproule at the same time, ( who apart from great name, I think is great too)

She's the only folk artist I'm into really. But for everything else I'm into a wide variety, from Girls Aloud to Reuben, from Stone Roses to Tori Amos. I like Devon Sproule - on a first listen it's washing over me a bit, like Norah Jones - Laura Marling is a bit more emo in a folk way, a bit melancholic and tender. I like the way she writes about being a teenager in a grown-up way, a bit like Dawson's Creek. What else are you into?

Laura Marling is like Kate Nash crossed with Kathleen Edwards.

She reminds me of Stephen Fretwell.

Ledodgy · 06/06/2008 17:38

I like the way she only does gigs at small venues sometimes huge venues haven't got the same feel when it comes to folk music.

northernrefugee39 · 07/06/2008 07:31

Victorian, great comparison!
Mrs, I go through phases at the moment, of types of stuff and listen over and over, like when I was e teenager.
At the moment it's Joan as Policewoman, Lucinda Williams, The be Good Tanyas Gilian Welsch and Martha Wainwright; I think I'm getting a bit narrow- and probably way too folky for you.....

VictorianSqualor · 07/06/2008 10:50

I like Lucinda, also love Mary Gauthier, wicked voice, haven't heard jona as policewoman though, may have to look it up.

MrsJamin · 07/06/2008 13:19

I think I could get into Martha Wainwright. Haven't heard of the others though, perhaps I'll go and check them out.

Oh another Gillian Welsh fan! Damn,I love her. And Laura Marling also lovely - that Ghosts song is gorgeous.

northernrefugee39 · 07/06/2008 14:57

Oh, Mary Gauthier, must try her..thanks
We have a great small venue near here, tiny tiny in the middle of no where. My dh was involved in putting on shows at one point there, and they get some really great people. Po Girl, The Handsome family, Bic Runga can't think of any others at the moment..
Midnight, do you like Natalie Merchant? Motherland is fab and reminds me of Gillian Welsh a bit.
jenny Lewis and the watson Twins ,Lori Mckenna, also great.

northernrefugee39 · 07/06/2008 14:58

I like Martha much more than Rufus...

MargaretMountford · 09/06/2008 19:08

oh I love Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins !
