I saw Marc sing with Jules Holland a couple of weeks ago. He didn tainted love- and was brilliant! Don't know what he does the rest of the time, though.

ALovelyPear · 06/06/2008 21:33

I love him too

Nothing up to date afaik

Desiderata · 06/06/2008 21:35

Wasn't he a one-hit-wonder, though?

MargaretMountford · 06/06/2008 21:36

yes, loved Soft Cell too...

wessexgirl · 06/06/2008 21:39

Marc Almond has released heaps of solo albums! None in the last few years though. Soft Cell had quite a few hits too. I love them; still listen to Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret when I'm in the mood for something electro-sleazy (which is quite often!).

wessexgirl · 06/06/2008 21:39

He was very ill a year or two ago as well, wasn't he?

Desiderata · 06/06/2008 21:41

Has he released an album since he was knocked off his bike a few years back? He had quite serious head injuries, as I recall.

LynetteScavo · 06/06/2008 21:43

I didn't realised he hadn't been well.

He seemed in fine form a couple of weeks ago. DH and I were at how fantastic his performance was. (Minus the eyeliner)

PeedOffandPg · 06/06/2008 21:43

Oh I LOVED him - I was fifteen and WALLOWED in all this stuff I hadnt experienced yet, like the Torment and Torreros album (sp) - I'd find it really harrowing now - remember "Martin"?.
I was a member of the "Gutterhearts" too.

scanner · 06/06/2008 21:45

Me too, I went to every London gig and even managed to get into a sound check once or twice.

WestLife eat your heart out.

Isn't it nice
Sugar and spice
Luring disco dollies
To a life of vice
I could make a film
And make you my star
You'd be a natural
The way you are
I would like you on
A long black leash
I would parade you
Down the high street
You've got the attraction
You've got the pulling power
Walk my little doggy
Walk my little sex dwarf
We could make a scene
We'd be a team
Making the headlines
Sounds like a dream
When we hit the floor
You just watch them move aside
We will take them
For a ride of rides
They all love your
Miniature ways
You know what they say
About small boys

I'm in my Rolls Royce
Look it's so huge
It's big and it's gold
With my dumb chauffeur
Looking to procure
Run little doggy
Lure a disco dolly
Run my little sex dwarf
I feel so lonely
Get my little camera
Take a pretty picture
Sex dwarf
In a gold Rolls
Making it with the dumb chauffeur

Isn't it nice
Sugar and spice
Luring disco dollies
To a life of vice
Sex dwarf
Isn't it nice
Luring disco dollies to a life of vice

We could make an outfit
For my little sex dwarf
To match the gold Rolls
And my dumb chauffeur
We'll all look so good
We'll knock 'em cold
Knocking 'em cold
In black and gold

We can have playtime
In my little playroom
Disco dollies
My sex dwarf
And my dumb chauffeur
I would like you on a long black lead
You can bring me all the things I need

Sex dwarf
Isn't it nice
Luring disco dollies to a life of vice
Isn't it nice
Sugar and spice
Luring disco dollies to a life of vice

AlistairSim · 06/06/2008 22:25

How weird!

I was just listening to "What makes a man a man" earlier.

MargaretMountford · 06/06/2008 23:39

I love this stories of johnny

cornsilk · 06/06/2008 23:40

I loved Marc and the Mambas. I went to see him in concert once - he was fab

Marina · 07/06/2008 00:21

Another big fan of the Sex Dwarf here, love him.

I suppose his nearest latter-day equivalents are alluring and ambivalent types like Antony and the Johnsons and that new disco band full of what looks like gorgeous ladyboys ...this lot

southeastastra · 07/06/2008 00:27

happy there's fans still out there

Marina · 07/06/2008 00:30

My mum, who is 78 and looks like the grandma from Giles, always loved Marc Almond on TOTP
She rates him as a singer

southeastastra · 07/06/2008 00:32

OP posts:
MargaretMountford · 07/06/2008 08:46

Marina at your mum !!

Pip · 23/01/2009 19:27

How funny to see ex-Gutterhearts and Cellmates on here! Sad to say, that I still go to see him EVERY year! How tragic am I?
38 and still behaving like a teenager...

Have a fab pic with him, don´t know how I can post it on here though ...

purepurple · 07/02/2009 12:06

love marc almond and have done since i was a teen, loved all the dark stuff he did with the mambas. He was a very early goth pioneer but doesn't get the credit for it IMHO
