Swifties, who else is just loving the Showgirl era?

After a busy and exciting weekend of Swiftie events in honour of the release of the new album, I am ready to give my initial thoughts. Since it is quite short, especially for a TS album, I have listened to it multiple times and honestly, I adore it. There isn't a single track that I don't love and several of them are instant classics, I am completely on board with this new era and really cannot fathom why critics have been so negative, I really don't know what they were expecting. There are some sweet love songs and some really sassy songs too and also lovely bittersweet moments like Ruin the Friendship. I think some people have been shocked by the fact the lyrics are a little more sexually explicit than is typical for TS but it is hardly gratuitous and she is a thirty-five year old woman who is at perfect liberty to write about relationships in a mature way if she wishes to. I don't have a problem when Sabrina Carpenter or Chappell Roan do it so why should it be an issue for Taylor?
Anyway, at the moment at least, my favourite tracks on the new album are The Fate of Ophelia, Elizabeth Taylor, Father Figure, Actually Romantic, Cancelled and Wi$hli$t, but, as I said, there isn't a single track on here I don't think is brilliant, truly all killer no filler!
Is anyone else loving this as much as I am?

Nope. Worst era ever. I'm back listening to TTPD.

I do like Opalite and Father Figure but overall it's not a great album IMO. And the music absolutely doesn't live up to the showgirl concept that was so hyped in all the photos pre-release.

I hope she takes a long break now.

I realise it won't work for everyone but it really just hits right for me, I'm here for all of it! It is a very different beast to TTPD, which, in my opinion, is one of the best things she's ever done and is a truly remarkable feat in both scale and quality, considering she wrote and recorded it while on the biggest tour in pop music history!
I think I respond so well to the new album because of how happy and in love she seems in her lyrics, which portray a really positive image of their relationship.
I think TS is the greatest lyricist in pop music, she writes heartbreak beautifully but she also writes exquisite love songs. I adore Reputation which is, when all said and done, mostly an album about falling in love with Joe and has some gorgeous, tender love songs on it, as does the wonderful Lover album, so I'm glad to have her back in love and writing soppy love songs again!

I love it!

I’ve only listened to parts of it in the car but it didn’t grab me at all. Found my mind had wandered off and stopped listening part the way through songs.

I’ve listened to it a few times for the sake of my DDs, even before they woke up. It gets better with re listening, but it’s a bit bland overall. Opalite is quite catchy, in a simplistic sort of way. I’d listen to it on a long drive, but can’t imagine more than one or two being played on the radio. It’s a 6/10 from me.

Very disappointing.I didn’t get TTPS and only listened to a few tracks. I prefer Midnights.

I love Taylor Swift but I think the new album is very meh. If it was someone else’s album, it would sink without trace.

I really like it! I think you have to be in the right mindset for it. Not an album to cry over a breakup with, but to blast in the car or romanticise the washing up whilst dancing round the kitchen with a saucepan, it’s great!

PinedApple · 06/10/2025 19:03

Not loving it tbh, all sounds quite samey. Actually Romantic is fun but feels mean. Plus it’s just ‘where is my mind’ instrumentally which came out nearly 40 years ago. Elizabeth Taylor and the title track were my faves. Just feels like we’re not getting her best writing here.
