Scammed on Oasis merchandise

Hello, I feel a bit stupid posting this but I think I have been scammed by someone on Facebook for Oasis merch. My partner is a mega fan and we went to the concert in Cardiff. We didn't go the merch stand and partner was gutted after.

So me being the lovely person I am wanted to get him some merch for our anniversary. I saw someone selling the Oasis tracksuit top on Facebook and the guy said he just wanted £90 as it didn't fit him. So I paid him with Goods and Services Paypal.

They come in different colours and I bought the blue one, but then my husband said he wanted the red tracksuit top. So I messaged Facebook seller to say I wanted to cancel the order.

Facebook seller has now blocked me from corresponding with him or sending messages. I messaged Paypal straight away but apparently I am not covered as it was my decision to cancel? And yet this seller has the tracksuit and my £90.

Is that right?

Yes, you should get what you paid for, have they had a chance to send it to you yet? Did you just send one polite cancellation request, as it seems a bit strange that they blocked you? Presumably PayPal will support you if you don't receive it, you just have to wait a reasonable time to see if it arrives.

The tracking number Facebook sent me doesn’t exist on Royal Mail. I have a gut feeling they just made it up and it’s been nearly 4 weeks now

Sadly I do think you’ve been scammed. Did you think you were purchasing original merchandise? The tell tale sign for me would be that they had different colours available and then telling you they were selling a one off item that didn’t fit. That in itself shows that either they’re selling fakes or that the story is too good to be true.

Oh and to add not much you can do but report to Facebook. But all they will really do is block the user and they’ll likely pop up under a different account.

Open up a dispute in PayPal

Sianholby · 19/08/2025 19:35

Hi I did open a dispute but they went with the seller as apparently “cancellation is not covered by PayPal goods and services”. So this scammer had got my money from selling something that might not exist.
I feel so stupid

You need to phone them and say to reopen the case as nothing has arrived

Hi, I have just done that now and also uploaded evidence that the tracking number doesn't exist in the Royal Mail system. Paypal said they would change the "dispute type" so please keep your fingers crossed.
