do you still shop in record shops?

or down load everything?

When i left uni, i worked in a record shop for over 5 years (was meant to be a temporary thing, but hey ho). Was very hi- fidelity, we all loved music, and had opinions on everything.

So much has changed in the 10 years since i left. i miss the old days of trawling through vinyl 7" singles...now i just look stuff up on you tube. I love the fact i can find the video to Red Box 'Lean on Me' at the touch of a button, it is just not the same as having to wait for a glimpse of your favourite group on 'top of the Pops'.....

or is the real the problem the fact i am just OLD?????

Do record shops still exist? Apart from HMV.

I always wanted to work in a record shop but got turned down by Our Price.
We still have one where I live but I've never been in it. It's always full of students.

LyraSilvertongue · 28/05/2008 11:25

I download everything nowadays although I still have my record collection and will never part with it voluntarily.

i love record shops.

a few years ago now, dh and took a day trip to london to stock up on vinyl. we spent a fortune, and have a great day chatting to pople about music, listening to stuff in the shop whilst dd1 who was about 2 boogied round the shop.

we have a independant record shop in town called City sounds now, and its good but rarely get time to pop in these days.

MrsBadger · 28/05/2008 11:27

no

Amazon or Play, or downloads

DH was given HMV vouchers for Christmas by a doting aunt and trying to spend them was quite unpleasant.

Bky · 28/05/2008 11:29

No I haven't stepped into a record shop for years now.

Lyra- i worked in Our Price!!! But then it changed to Virgin, and not long after that i left, because we has to play Virgin Megastores radio all the time and it was awful and soul destroying. After we closed , we would indulge in playing stuff we liked.

I started thinking about this when i read that Woolies weren't selling singles any more....

I suppose on the rare occasion i now go into a shop, i find they are more dvd/games based...

hardly ever now to be honest.

Shame, as it was once a huge pleasure, and something I did at least once a week. Used to love coming home with a bag full of vinyl to get to know.

But now, with no time and every resource imaginable online, sadly there is no longer any point to it for me! I also just buy a lot less than before anyway. I'd say half of my music I now download and the other half I still buy on CD, but no vinyl any more.

southeastastra · 28/05/2008 11:53

yes but only hmv. tesco too.

mostly amazon though, never downloaded anything in my life.

delllie · 28/05/2008 14:26

I download a lot of stuff, but still buy the cds albums of bands/music I really like, but very rarely the singles.

wooga · 28/05/2008 15:37

I went in zavvi a couple of weeks ago but couldn't get round with pram and gave up!I tend to buy stuff online nowadays.

We used to have an Ourprice where we hung around-I remember buying a vinyl there and being really chuffed because it was purple marble effect!

ImPinkThereforeImSpam · 29/05/2008 16:41

I still like vinyl! I recently resurrected my turntable, dusted my collection and indulged in a good old reminisce! I could even remember where all the clicks and scratches were! Joe Jackson, I'm the Man. Classic.
The dcs were completely fascinated by the whole notion of having to brush the dust off and manually put the needle on!
