Haven’t seen another thread.

Anyone listening (me), watching or Promming?

think I love Mendelssohn more and more as I age.

I’m taking DS to our first prom next week - Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. We’re both really looking forward to it!

Ooh, just remembered that Mahler 7 is on tonight. Tuning in to that now!

OK, rather disappointed with that. The orchestra was barely together in the first movement which has to be down to the conductor. The horns had a bit of a mare in the second movement, and I know that flute part is marked "flüchtig", but it didn't seem to fit right.

It got better as it went on, but still rather underwhelming, for what is one of my absolutely favourite pieces.

Caught the last 5 minutes tonight. Hoping someone can tell me what the pieces were and the composers - they were English composers

?purplebunnie i wonder what you were listening to! Was it definitely the Prom? I don’t know where Jay Cupernauld is from but his Bruckners Skull was on.

According to the web page it was;

Programme
Jean‐Philippe Rameau
Les Indes galantes – suite(24 mins)
Camille Saint‐Saëns
Piano Concerto No. 5 in F major, ‘Egyptian’(29 mins)
interval
Jay Capperauld
Bruckner’s Skull(16 mins)
Ludwig van Beethoven
Symphony No. 5 in C minor(31 mins)

I might have to have a listen to Bruckner's Skull at some point.

That's what was confusing me. It had Proms all across the back, looked like the Albert Hall, but when I looked on line it didn't match up to what I'd heard. The information on the TV said Vivaldi and I love a bit of Vivaldi. It must have been a repeat. Damn still none the wiser but thank you

Managed to catch the Symphonic Dances tonight. Unfortunately, a very lightweight, humdrum performance.

Hoping for better as I'm going to tomorrow night and Saturday nights proms.

Went to Rachmaninov’s 2nd piano concerto yesterday. Just sheer musical sumptuousness. Sandwiched between 2 pieces by 20th C polish composers. Not bad but nowhere near as enjoyable to me.
