I'm getting married later this year. Its a civil ceremony - very informal/non traditional - with a big party after.

We need five songs for the ceremony - one to walk in to, three whilst the register is being signed and one to come out to

I've had a couple of ideas but would be interested to hear others..

Also - we're having a cheesy disco at night - what would you include in your "must play" list

Thanks

it's the 1st dance song I cant think of we dont have an "our song" so it's gonna be very difficult. In fact we dont even like the same music

LullyMummaOfOne · 22/05/2008 13:22

Hi TillyScoutsmum, i had a very low key wedding earlier this year and it was also in a regisrty office so we had to choose music too. This took as ages to decide but in the end we went with:

Entrance- Shania Twain 'From this Moment'
Signing of register: Michael Buble 'Everything' and Phil Collins 'True Colours (we only needed 2)
Exit of bride & groom- Jackie Wilson 'Higher & Higher'

Good luck with choosing the right songs

Sidge · 22/05/2008 13:22

You MUST have some Abba at your cheesy disco - guaranteed to get everyone up and dancing!!

Also Black Box - Ride on Time
Wham - Wake me up before you go go
Rocky Horror - the Time Warp

When I got married I walked in to Clarke's Trumpet Voluntary , and walked out to Widor's Toccata which is absolutely beautiful and really uplifting and celebratory.

For more modern pieces how about Can you feel the love tonight, by Elton John (if you can get over the Lion King association!), You're the inspiration by Chicago, Dido Thank you, Whitney Houston I will always love you.

TillyScoutsmum · 22/05/2008 13:22

Can't beat a bit of Dolly cupcake

We have a few "our tunes" that we might have when signing the register but I do wonder if the guests might be thinking WTF ??!

PJ - I got married in 2003 last time - our videographer put Flying without wings on our video (even though I had given her the songs I wanted).. I loathe Westlife and cringed everytime I saw it. So I got divorced

We are walking into wouldn't it be nice by the beach boys

It will make everyone smile and the words are great.

Another good one is embrace gravity or the ramones baby I love you.

My friend had sade by your side .

HTH

beach boys

gravity

ramones

sade

TillyScoutsmum · 22/05/2008 13:26

Oh Lully - I love the Jackie Wilson for an exit song. Do love Toccata as well

Torn between going modern/non classical (which is frankly more us and in line with the wedding) or having some classical stuff in there which is a bit more "weddingy"

Blinking - love Gravity and beach boys

Keep 'em coming

We walked out to the Flower Song from Lakme. Probably better known since the mid-90s as the BA advert.

carolcupcake · 22/05/2008 13:27

PMSL Tilly! I think you made the right decision about the divorce

Sidge · 22/05/2008 13:35

Oh god I've just listened to my links again and they made me cry remembering my wedding - how soppy am I?

(Because it was a fab day, not because it was hideous by the way!)

TillyScoutsmum · 22/05/2008 13:37

We're thinking of an instrumental version of this to walk in to. What do you think ?

OP posts:
S1ur · 22/05/2008 13:59

very strring Tilly, I like it.

Quick questions because I really need to phone my own town hall. But, are you walking in together? How is it all going to work?

TillyScoutsmum · 22/05/2008 14:01

Yes - we're walking in with dd's (not sure we'll get all four of us in a line - probably send the 2 girls together first and then both go in after)

god only knows by beach boys? Recommended by someone else on here once..

What about types like Ella fitzgerald/louis armstrong/nina simone?

S1ur · 22/05/2008 14:03

Aw that's nice. hmm I wonder if Granny stood at the front with chocoloate, our two could be persuaded to go in a straight line...

Course then they'd probably charge

Iklboo · 22/05/2008 14:04

Walked down to Canon in D
Walked up to Trumpet Voluntary
'Our' song is 'I Love You Just The Way You Are' - Barry White version
Second 'Our Song' - 500 miles by Proclaimers

Ask DJ to play 'Big 10 Inch' by Aerosmith - hilarious!

DON'T play Love is A Battlefield
or
Bloody 'Band of Gold' - used to be played at loads of weddings. Did DJ actually listen to the lyrics???

TillyScoutsmum · 22/05/2008 14:07

Not sure you can mention god in a civil ceremony. Love the beach boys - maybe I get around wouldn't be appropriate

Nat King Cole - Let There Be Love is a possibility for coming out. The "our tunes" we're considered (I keep saying we - obviously DP doesn't give a monkeys ) are This is the one (Stone Roses) and Romeo & Juliet (Dire Straits but think I might prefer The Killers version)

do you remember this thread? first dance but might have some good possibilties?

TillyScoutsmum · 22/05/2008 14:10

Thanks Slur - will have a trawl through that... Have to go to nursery rhyme time now Maybe I could walk up to ITNG theme and out to If you're happy and you know it

Some great stuff on this thread! I love the idea of walking in to the Beach Boys - Wouldn't It Be Nice is so cheery, and God Only Knows is so lovely

carolcupcake - Only You is a brilliant choice for first dance. My brother and SIL had Just Like Heaven by the Cure, which was also inspired, although it makes me get a bit of grit in my eye now

Tilly - yanbu re. the comments on YouTube, tis a veritable festival of stupidity. Except, for some reason, 80s music videos which seem to attract a higher class of commentator

Oh, and I forgot to say earlier: CONGRATULATIONS to all the getting-marrieds. Weddings are cool

arthursmum · 22/05/2008 15:04

I am loving this thread! To add my tuppence worth I walked in to the theme music from the film "The Princess Bride" (very much loved by both of us) played Sammy Davis Jnr and Peggy Lee singing "You're the Top" while we signed the register and "Love is in the Air" as we walked out.

First dance was "You're My Home" by Billy Joel and then everyone joined us on the dancefloor to bounce around insanely to "Birdhouse in Your Soul" - the DJ was amazed by how popular it was!

carolcupcake · 22/05/2008 15:06

I love Birdhouse in Your Soul! It was the first single I ever bought

lulalullabye · 22/05/2008 15:08

Walk down or in to either natural woman by Aretha of Amazed by you by lonestar. The words are perfect.

snice · 22/05/2008 15:09

most ramantic record ever

snice · 22/05/2008 15:10

romantic even

TillyScoutsmum · 22/05/2008 16:44

Birdhouse in your soul is brilliant (memories of school days) Will definately put that on the DJ list

Snice - very romantic. Unfortunately first dance for dp and his ex wife at their wedding.

Limits your options second time around
