I was in a cafe today and heard "one of us is crying....". What a fantastic song. I feel oddly compelled to go and buy an Abba record cd and jig around the sitting to it with dds.

The fine young cannibals
Heard a track today on the radio driving to school,
It was great, turned it up the kids just looked on

When You Say Nothing At All - Ronan Keating. Mainly because it reminds me of a lovely man who I shouldn't have noticed was lovely...

Someone's already said it, but 'Never Tear Us Apart' by INXS. Great, great song by a very average band.

chopchopbusybusy · 17/05/2008 00:22

Airport by The Cars
Don't Go Breaking My Heart by Elton John and Kiki Dee
Any song sung by Leonard Cohen!

Just for hatwoman:

I would take the stars out of the sky for you
Stop the rain from falling if you asked me to.
I'd do anything for you
your wish is my command

I could move a mountain when your hand is in my hand.
Words cannot express how much you mean to me.
There must be some other way to make you see.
If it takes my heart and soul
you know I'd pay the price.
Everything that I possess I'd gladly sacrifice.

Oh you to me are everything
The sweetest song that I could sing
Oh baby
Oh baby
To you I guess I'm just a clown
Who picks you up each time you're down
Oh baby
Oh baby
You give me just a taste of love
To build my hopes upon.
You know you've got the power girl
To keep me holding on.
So now you've got the best of me
Come on and take the rest of me
Oh baby

Though you're close to me
we seem so far apart.
Maybe given time you'll have a change of heart.
If it takes forever
girl then I'm prepared to wait.
The day you give your love to me won't be a day too late

Oh you to me are everything.
The sweetest song that I could sing.
Oh baby
Oh baby
To you I guess I'm just a clown
Who picks you up each time you're down
Oh baby
Oh baby
You give me just a taste of love
To build my hopes upon.
You know you've got the power girl
To keep me holding on.
So now you've got the best of me
Come on and take the rest of me
Oh baby

Oh you to me are everything.
the sweetest song that I could sing.
(Your the sweetest song that I could sing.)
Oh baby (oh baby)
Oh baby (yes I need you baby)
You to me are everything.
The sweetest song that I could sing.
Oh baby (you are everything to me)
Oh baby (cant you see)
You to me are everything.
The sweetest song that I could sing.
(Your the sweetest song that I could sing.)
Oh baby
Oh baby (you're everything)
You to me are everything.
The sweetest song that I could sing.
Oh baby
Oh baby (your the sweetest song)
You to me are everything.
The sweetest song that I could sing.

By The Real Thing.

Can't stop humming it now!

Seasons In The Sun

Goodbye to you, my trusted friend.
We've known each other since we're nine or ten.
Together we climbed hills or trees.
Learned of love and ABC's,
skinned our hearts and skinned our knees.
Goodbye my friend, it's hard to die,
when all the birds are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
Pretty girls are everywhere.
When you see them I'll be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the hills that we climbed
were just seasons out of time.
Goodbye, Papa, please pray for me,
I was the black sheep of the family.
You tried to teach me right from wrong.
Too much wine and too much song,
wonder how I get along.
Goodbye, Papa, it's hard to die
when all the birds are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
Little children everywhere.
When you see them I'll be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the wine and the song,
like the seasons, all have gone.
Goodbye, Michelle, my little one.
You gave me love and helped me find the sun.
And every time that I was down
you would always come around
and get my feet back on the ground.
Goodbye, Michelle, it's hard to die
when all the bird are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
With the flowers ev'rywhere.
I whish that we could both be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the stars we could reach
were just starfishs on the beach

MarsLady · 17/05/2008 01:03

and another that gets me every time:

A Good Year for the Roses

I can hardly bear the sight of lipstick
On the cigarettes there on the ashtray
Lying all the way you left them
But at least your lips caressed them
While you packed

Or the lip ring on a half filled cup of coffee
That you poured and didn't drink
But at least you thought you wanted it
That's so much more than I can say for me

CHORUS:
What a good year for the roses
Many blooms still linger there
Lawn could stand another mowing
Funny I don't even care

As you turned to walk away
As the door behind you closes
The only thing I have to say
Its been a good year for the roses

After 3 full years of marriage
It's the first time that you haven't made the bed
I'll guess the reason we're not talking
Is so little left to say we haven't said

While a million thoughts go racing through my mind
I find I haven't said a word
From the bedroom the familiar sound
Of young babies crying goes unheard

ButterflyMcQueen · 17/05/2008 21:15

yes mars seasons in the sun!

EachPeachPearMum · 19/05/2008 23:13

Aargh- I think lots of us must be the same age on here!
INXS, Johnny Hates Jazz, Dream Academy, Aztec Camera, Danny Wilson etc etc etc

Just going to add 'I need a hero' by Bonnie Tyler- its just amazing, but I would NEVER admit to that one!

MrsWeasley · 19/05/2008 23:20

Ash - 1977

just the whole album but especially 'Girl from Mars' and 'Oh Yeah'

it doesn't just remind me of coming of age, it's intricately bound up in the fabric of that particular time...

totalmisfit · 22/05/2008 15:15

Oh Yeah she was taking me over
Oh Yeah it was the start of the summer

On warm June evenings
She would come to my house
Still in her school skirt
And her summer blouse
Talking too long as the night came on
It was the best time of my life
Her bee stung lips,
Kisses sweeter than wine
The things she whispered
With breathless sighs
The summer air was soft and warm
Her eyes were making silent demands
And as her hair came undone in my hands

Oh Yeah she was taking me over
Oh Yeah it was the start of the summer

Driving her home after midnight
I felt so good everything was alright
Her thoughts seemed so lost in the night sky
I remember everything
I don't know why these things ever end
I sometimes wish it was that summer again
I still see her in my sleep
And hear the sighing of the summer wind
Still I don't regret one thing

Oh Yeah she was taking me over
Oh Yeah it was the start of the summer
It felt just like it was the start of forever
Oh Yeah it was the start of the summer
