I love him and this morning I bought tickets to see him in Dublin in February.
I told everyone at work but just got blank looks so I thought I'd start a thread in the hope somebody might appreciate my joy.
I don't think there is any songwriter currently releasing music who can match him.

If we were vampires is my top favourite choice for our wedding signing song but it is a bit sad perhaps

Sidebeforeself · 19/12/2024 21:54

I loved his song “ Tired of being Alone” ( that might not be the title). Hes had a difficult life I think

Moreshroomsplease · 19/12/2024 21:56

I appreciate this! I listen to him daily. I wanted to go and see him near me in November but couldn’t face going on my on as nobody else I know has heard of him. I feel really sad about it now and just wished I’d done it.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 19/12/2024 22:03

I absolutely love him, Hope the High Road is one of my favourite songs of all time but it makes me bawl.

NowInNovember · 20/12/2024 01:39

I bought two tickets but I'm seriously thinking about being brave and going alone. I think I might enjoy it more if I wasn't worrying about someone else being bored.
His albums are works of art. There aren't any filler songs on them.
If I absolutely had to pick a favourite I'd maybe go with King of Oklahoma but If We Were Vampires is hauntingly beautiful. I also love Yvette.

I’m another fan. Such a talented guy.

Sidebeforeself · 20/12/2024 08:48

@NowInNovember Do it! Going alone to stuff is fab . Nobody will be paying attention to you , so you are free t o enjoy the gig however you want. I dont think there’ll be a mosh pit though! 😀

Sidebeforeself · 20/12/2024 08:49

Im jealous he’s not coming anywhere near me.

Shivermetimbers0112 · 26/12/2024 13:07

Wonderful artist. Seeing him at the Barbican in February. Too many great songs to mention. Have told my kids I want Tupelo played at my graveside - “…if I get out of this hole I’m going to Tupelo” 😂

My favourite Jason line is "there's two kinds of men in this world and you're neither of them."

Sidebeforeself · 04/01/2025 17:49

NowInNovember · 04/01/2025 20:28

Who is mr Tillman?

Isbell gets name checked in this.

Trigger warning. Esp for One Direction fans

Sidebeforeself · 05/01/2025 11:06

Well Ive just listened to that and he’s no match for Mr. Isbell!

JIsbell · 05/01/2025 11:11

Saw him in Brighton end of last year.
One of THE best gigs I have ever been to. Every track a winner. And I didn't even know most of them before the evening (obviously knew Vampires)

Husband is a big fan, I'm more of a Brandi Carlisle >>> Highwomen >> Amanda Shires (his ex):

Great song JI/AS the problem, if you haven't heard it. Check it out

NowInNovember · 05/01/2025 20:56

I love Amanda Shires and Brandi Carlile too. There is a video on YouTube of The Highwomen singing The Chain with Jason Isbell playing behind them and I think it's the best performance I've ever seen.

Me too, I never get tired of hearing Tupelo. I love Cover Me Up too ❤

AreolaGrande · 05/01/2025 21:16

Used to love him and saw him live twice but my opinion of him has drastically changed based on how he's conducted himself through the divorce from Amanda and his overlapping new relationship plus the ridiculous turkey teeth and generally quite tragic image overhaul.

Still think he's a v talented songwriter but wouldn't go see him again. The songs on Southeastern sound quite hollow these days.

Sidebeforeself · 05/01/2025 21:34

@AreolaGrande What has he done?

NowInNovember · 13/02/2025 13:54

The gig was excellent. A mix of songs from his upcoming new album and his classics. It was an older crowd and I was beside some American super fans so I didn't feel uncomfortable being on my own. I'm really glad I went.
