ELO Final Show in Hyde Park

DH has been lucky enough to acquire advance to tickets to the ELO final show in Hyde Park next July. Has anyone ever been to a concert in Hyde Park? How is spacing and crowd control organised and do people get in the way eg by girlfriend sitting on boyfriend’s shoulders right in front of the stage/screens?

We are very much of the ELO generation so are far from being in the first flush of youth. I have never quite recovered from a ruptured Achilles tendon a few years ago so find it hard to just stand still although I don’t have a problem with walking up and down or dancing. I get grumpy if I get barged and DH is far too old to put me on his shoulders 😂 so I am wondering whether I would just be better off watching it on TV (if it gets shown). The concert lasts for 1 1/2 hours, although there could be a warmup band first and we need time to get in to the park. On the other hand, I love ELO, would have no hesitation going to see them in a proper theatre. I will never get this chance again. Should I go? Opinions welcome!

I would, if I had tickets (same generation). In fact, I am hoping to get some and am most jealous of you and your dh. I want to be there just for the experience. As you say, it will be our last chance.

I have been to two Hyde Park concerts in recent years. Crowds were well spaced out and we had a choice of where we settled ourselves. We had plenty of space to move around but then we're weren't trying to get right to the front. There were giant screens so even though were further back we could easily see them
We bought a blanket to sit on and the most annoying thing on one occasion was the entitled man in the group in front who kept leaning back on it! His wife did tell him off!
I can't remember any sitting on shoulders.

Thanks for the post. I got tickets yesterday in a pre-sale too. Terribly excited!

Thanks guys. You’ve persuaded me with minimum effort 😉

We were in London several years ago when they played Hyde Park and just happened to be in the park the morning of the show.
We couldn’t see them as the stage was all screened off but they did a run through of the whole performance which we heard.
I don’t blame you for going OP if they are half as good as they were then you won’t be disapppinted.

Oooh, thanks for the reminder, I got the pre-sale link yesterday but was at work and forgot to do it when I got home, just booked.

More importantly - can I take a picnic in?!

Blackcountryexile · 24/10/2024 20:49

No . In my experience bags are checked and I don't think you'd get away with bringing a picnic.

Is there any word on if this is still happening?

Get there early for the Doobie Brothers and give Michael McDonald my love (seeing them at the O2 next week).

ExquisiteIyDecorated · 11/07/2025 11:45

Haven't heard anything to the contrary but keeping an eye on emails

Pedallleur · 12/07/2025 15:58

It's cancelled. Google the event.

Pancakeflipper · 12/07/2025 16:08

We did wonder, friends saw him last week and said he wasn't looking strong. And then Mamchester turned into a shambles.

I can't decide if to be annoyed or laugh at DP - we had tickets for Sunday. DP sold them to an acquaintance because we realised 4 months ago we had a clashing important event. He sold them for less than we paid. Transferred through Ticketmaster (think it was that App.). Now the acquaintance can claim the full amount of money and makes a profit.

Just seen it on the app. I'm glad they've cancelled the whole thing TBH, rather than just running it without ELO, it wouldn't have been the same. I hope Jeff makes a good recovery.

beguilingeyes · 12/07/2025 21:52

I think it's a bit rubbish they've cancelled the whole thing. There was still Steve Winwood and the Doobie Brothers.
A few years ago Elton pulled out of one of these and they made they whole day free for everyone else.

I wouldn't have travelled to see the others, just given it a miss (we hadn't booked travel or accommodation). At least this way we should get a total refund.
