My son, Matthew , is currently in Year 10 and is interested in applying to the Sixth Form at Chetham's School of Music. Upon reviewing the Sixth Form requirements, we noticed that GCSE Music is listed as a prerequisite. Unfortunately, Matthew's current school does not offer GCSE Music lessons or provide any guidance on taking the subject independently.

Matthew is an accomplished violinist, having passed the ARSM level and currently studying for the LRSM. He has also completed Grade 5 theory and is deeply passionate about music, which is why he is eager to apply to Chetham's School.

He is now concerning if that is a big issue when apply Sixth Form at Chetham's School of Music. please give any advices or experience share

I’m sure with his level of music theory and his grade on violin, they would consider him attending an audition. They run a week long summer course which I would strongly recommend as it’s a great way for him to see if it’s for him, they also offer advice auditions during that week.
