Been playing music to bump really loudly and now worried

Hi,

I'm almost 20 weeks and for about 6-8 weeks I've been playing music to the bump for 15 mins a day. I put my phone on my tummy and play it on a very high volume (sometimes max). My rationale being that they won't be able to hear it otherwise. Today they kicked like mad in response and I suddenly thought I should check whether the loudness was OK. And I've read that over 70ish dB is too much (my phone goes up to 115dB). Is it ok that I've been doing this for a while? Worried about potentially causing hearing damage.

Try not to worry

Whilst the baby is exposed to noises within the womb, it can start to hear noises from outside the womb from 23/40. Sound travels best through air but will also travel through fluid (the amniotic fluid) but will be more distorted and muffled.

When I was pregnant we went to a little folk evening at our local library in a campaign keep it open. DD kicked me all evening and I said to DH she’s a folk fan then takes after you. It won’t damage your baby’s hearing. How can it?

I’ve been going to gigs and festivals since being pregnant. Honestly it’s fine, the water will muffle it.

Babies can usually hear what's going on. There's no n ed to hold your phone against the bump, just play music you enjoy at a reasonable volume and baby will be able to hear it Wink

We're off to Foo Fighters tonight with friends, one of the group is 38 weeks pregnant. Friend is a midwife and not remotely concerned that bump won't like Foo's.
