I'm so happy I found this thread 😀 anyone into metalcore btw?

Gahhhhereheisagain · 08/09/2023 22:58

@SootspriteSearcher love HIM, they're my guilty pleasure

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 08/09/2023 23:01

Def Leppard, I saw them at Wembley as a teenager in 1988, Bon Jovi, Metallica and Whitesnake.
I've recently got into Volbeat (love Black Rose), Ghost and Massive Wagons. My oldest son thinks my taste is embarrassing, he prefers Slipknot.

BlowMyBubbles · 08/09/2023 23:03

Oh my people, I grew up with an older sister obsessed with TOTP and all we had was her style of music growing up, when I found my own I was 'rebelling' rather than finding my own taste. 🙄 music is so personal, I don't disagree with peoples tastes but I'll never understand my sisters obsession with Robbie Williams. He always looked and sang like a squashed frog to me!

If it hasn't been mentioned, I adore Edguy of you haven't heard them definitely worth a YouTube search.

turkeyboots · 08/09/2023 23:13

I'll be back for new metal suggestions, hello heavy metal ladies. DH has had many compliments for his excellent music taste, but it was all my cds, cause middle aged mothers don't do Machine Head, Ramstein or Iron Maiden.

KylieKangaroo · 08/09/2023 23:13

Hello my people! Absolutely love Alice in Chains and Faith No More are one of my all time favourites ( lucky to have seen them twice)

Love Deftones too, Minerva is always on my playlists it's such a beautiful song.

Music is a big part of my life and I still get so much enjoyment from it, I hope it never goes away that feeling that you get from listening to your favourite bands!

FizzyFishRock · 08/09/2023 23:16

Metal fan here too. Metallica is my first love but there’s a fair list of bands I like. The pressure of naming them has got to me though!

@CervixSampler The VirginMarys are amazing live. I saw them again a couple of times this summer and was reminded how much I like them.

FizzyFishRock · 08/09/2023 23:25

Love Sabaton, have seen them several times from tiny venues to Wembley Arena. Their co-headline tour with Alestorm a few years back was amazing.

Has anyone listened to Florence Black?

TobiasForgesContactLense · 09/09/2023 00:07

@WetBandits I did see Sabaton at Hellfest one year but that was some time ago

@SisterImpera well hello there!

Hellfest is absolutely crazy. I've never seen so much shit in all my life. The vineyards were full of faeces. I did hellfest Once and Graspop twice. Was lucky enough to see Dio at Hellfest before he died (not sure if he's been mentioned yet).

Oooh and while I’m at it, I saw Sabaton in April and while I was very sad that The Hu were no longer supporting, I discovered a new love for Babymetal! They were incredible.

I seen the Hu very recently.. Amazing experience I was not prepared for!

Spookiness · 09/09/2023 07:01

My people, it's hard to find a metalhead irl this days. I grow up listening to Metallica and nu metal , but also grounge. Still jumming to it now. Love "screamy" music like MIW or knocked loose, early this year I found sleep token they're really good. Swedes band Imminence , vocalist sing and also plays violin. There's lots of great ladies in metal music to😊

Samcro · 09/09/2023 07:43

my now adult son got me into metal. he was well pissed off when avenged sevenfold became my band 💀
had a a proud moment as he had one of his photos(he is now a photograper) in metal hammer.

countdowntonap · 09/09/2023 07:57

@HopesAndCo I ‘like’ metalcore but doesn’t listen to any bands in particular. Chimaira’s ‘Nothing Remains’ is the first song I recall liking from the genre. Any recommendations?

Yorkshirelass04 · 09/09/2023 08:17

Another Marilyn Manson fan here. I've seen him numerous times in the UK and US.

Also love and have seen NIN, Slayer, Iron Maiden. Was at the Crue and Def Leppard concert at Wembley this summer (I know not quite metal).

Morning all, mind if I join the gang!

Been into Metal/hard rock/prog rock and many other genres since the beginning of the 80's.

Seen a fair few bands from Rush to Rammstein (Berlin over 20 years ago twas epic) to Crossfaith a Japanese metalcore band and more lately Stigmata who are Sri Lankan.

Love some of the more cheesy bands from the 80's, Rat and the like and some softer rock Dam Yankees, But got to love a bit of Ted Nugent. Saw many bands throughout the 80's and 90's some big names at the time Def Leppard/Kiss/Sabbath/Scorpions, even was on The Tube when Motorhead played and Twisted Sister, that was a night that carried on after!

Thankfully my DH is into the same, hes more of the hardcore but keeps me up to speed with new bands.

Loving reading all your stories about who you like and who you have seen. BTW did anyone wayyyyyyy back in the day go to the Rock on The Tyne?

AlexisaGod · 09/09/2023 08:51

Just to add, I cannot hold a tune in a bucket, but after a few sherbets a couple of weeks ago was singing along to Highway Song by Blackfoot, in the garden, loudly, on my own, thankfully no-one could hear, it was so bad it was good!

MaggieBsBoat · 09/09/2023 08:57

Ooooh love this thread.
i got I to metal in the mid 80s. Went to my first Donington in 88 (or 89 I can’t remember!).
Now my 8 year old loves metal.
I saw Rammstein in Berlin a month ago too @Maatandosiris .

Brewdug · 09/09/2023 09:01

Great thread, don't know which pp to reply to first!

I was a grunge teen, discovered Opeth at uni in the late 90s and they've been my band ever since (they are also my school run hoodie, pp!).

Lean towards Scandi stuff but am a bit stuck in following the same bands from back in the day. After drifting away for a while I spent a lot of time getting reacquainted with metal when the death of LG from Entombed threw me for an unexpected loop. It's as good as it ever was and I'm chuffed with myself for my enduring good taste Grin.

I went to lots of gigs back in the day - on my own sometimes - and interviewed plenty of bands for different things over the years. I never once felt out of place or othered for being a woman. It always just seemed like a great scene.

Brewdug · 09/09/2023 09:02

Oh yes, hello to the Anathema fan upthread! Great memories of that band.

Rockandrollfangirl · 09/09/2023 09:02

My tastes were more big hair rock back in the day. I still love all that.
Recently went to a day at the Steelhouse Festival and saw Mike Tramp from White Lion locally.
Just bought tickets for the Mr Big farewell tour too. They are bloody brilliant live.
What's everyone's next gig?

DeadButDelicious · 09/09/2023 09:12

What's everyone's next gig?

No idea, I'm going to see my brother play on Tuesday but that is distinctly not metal 😂. We are weighing up either The Mission in October (I've seen them, DH hasn't) or The sisters of mercy in November both at f which aren't metal either 😂😂. My last gig was pulp so I'm definitely overdue a metal gig. It's all so expensive though and almost always on a bloody school night 😂😂.
