Marimba for GCSE music

Hi,

I wondered if anybody has experience of dealing with a child learning marimba for GCSE?

I've been looking at them online, and they look great, but not portable.

It seems as thought it is a choice between the lovely resonant sound of the big instruments or a less nice sound in a more portable one.

I wondered if there is any way to get a more portable one that still has a lovely sound?

I don't think people who have them really move them much. It would stay at home unless in exceptional circumstances eg the exam when you'd have to figure out how to get it there. Man and van?
