Sixth Form Choice

My DS is looking to leave school after his GCSE's next year and study a Level 3 Diploma in music (guitar). He has auditioned at the Rhythm Studio, London but has concerns about London (he's at school in Somerset!) and also that the college has no notable alumni. ACM Guildford seems stronger on the alumni front and we have lined up an audition there in December. I was therefore wondering if anyone had experience of their sixth form programme? He's looking to be stretched and inspired in an encouraging and supportive environment (my words but reckon he'd agree 😀)

Have you got any further with your research @rockgodmum? If not, it might be worth posting in the Higher Education section on MN or asking @MNHQ to move this thread over for you?

We have similar dilemma. We went to ACM open day and DD lived it, but need more opinion or advice. Did you get any more answers? What has your son decided to do?

Hello @rockgodmum and @Belshels - where did your kids land up going? How are they finding it so far. Dd wants to do extended diploma in music. Applying to a few colleges to cover the bases - just had first offer from ACM, be good to hear how it went for yours in the end. Thanks 😊

Hi, yes DD went to ACM audition and is very likely going to join the Songwriting Diploma course Sept 2024.theyve invited her to the studio in London next week (Metropolis) so she's happy.

Oooh exciting - yes dd invited on same visit but needs to get back to the tutor. Maybe they’ll meet this week.

ACM is awful, tiny campus, no study area, antiquated studio equipment, they are in it for the money. The guy on the open day is a bought in enthusiastic person, which makes me think they couldn't get a student to speak so enthusiastically. Thousands of students and absolutely no investment in the place. I'd look anywhere else!
