Totally different to lemonade.... wondering what others think

It took a few listens for me to even like it as originally I disliked the single. In love with the nearly the whole album now!

Tricky listening as she swears constantly so I'm having to listen when my toddler isn't around

I have listened once while doing the washing up. I wasn’t sure at all. It is very different and not what I was expecting.

My 3 month old absolutely loved it!

And he is very tough to please. So there’s clearly something in it! 🤣

Will relisten tomorrow and get back to you

I'm on the fence but I think it'll grow on me. Doesn't feel the wow that I felt with lemonade....

Despite being a huge beyonce fan across all of her solo music, I still never really know if I know her, if that makes sense? I'm not sure this album will get me closer to that.

I'm convinced the use of the offensive word that is being removed from Heated was a big marketing ploy to get people talking. No way that her team wouldn't be aware of the issue with Lizzo.

britneyisfree · 02/08/2022 23:50

@LemonSwan yes not at all what I expected!
It's definitely grown on me quickly

@andyethereweare same. I've followed her since writing on the wall with dc and she always surprises me I never know what she'll come with

I do think we are slowly getting closer to the real her. I also think she might always have wanted to be a rapper. There's a clip of her with Kelly & I think the oc's of DC where she raps and I suspect she wasn't 'allowed' to do it on earlier albums. She can do what she likes now.

I also wondered if the constant name brand references were new as I don't remember her doing that much before (some on lemonade) but I guess if she's a rapper now that's going to happen sometimes!

Her ego gets bigger with every album and I love it... she fills my cup every time. I have been waiting for this! Cozy makes me feel confident, I feel as though she is forcing me to affirm myself... it's needed.

Apparently it's only part one 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾

I think she’s very clever. I didn’t ‘get’ lemonade for a while. Not until I watched the visual album and actually took the time to listen to the lyrics and think about it as a whole body of work.

On the surface it’s obviously talking about an affair in a husband/wife relationship. But I have my own suspicions about what she was really trying to talk about and it wasn’t what you would expect.

That’s my own thing between Me and Bey lol so I apologise for not divulging. That makes me think I know her a bit.

britneyisfree · 03/08/2022 00:08

@LemonSwan love that Grin

I didn't think it was a marketing ploy but then I hadn't heard about lizzo.

I heard the word but didn't realise it was in the sense of the offensive term as I've not heard said it since primary school!!

OP posts:
Ticksallboxes · 03/08/2022 00:20

It's. A. Bit. Shit. IMO.

Darlissima · 03/08/2022 00:26

Best thing she has done since Lemonade.

I don’t believe at all that the use of the offensive term was deliberate. (Not excusing it-it’s easy enough to check).

alnawire · 03/08/2022 00:36

There is not a single chance that nobody knew about the word. It was a massive deal and less then a month ago. Beyoncé has absolutely used it to boost sales, god knows why, she didn't need to!

I appreciate you might not have heard about the Lizzo situation OP but I'm quite sure it hasn't bypassed the whole music industry. She knew.

alnawire · 03/08/2022 00:36

Actually it might not even be about sales. Lizzo got MASSIVE respect for how she dealt with it. Maybe Beyoncé wanted a piece?

alnawire · 03/08/2022 00:37

I don’t believe at all that the use of the offensive term was deliberate. (Not excusing it-it’s easy enough to check).

I don't believe it was deliberately used but I do believe it was deliberately left in when they knew full well it wasn't ok.

britneyisfree · 03/08/2022 10:27

I'm surprised she's taking it out. I assumed she'd just leave it. I figured it was new slang for something else as in the context of the song I can't see that it's derogatory in the way people used to use it when I was at school.

Really?

britneyisfree · 03/08/2022 10:46

@alnawire yes. She says something like s* on that ass or something, I had no idea what she was on about until I saw the article.

I assumed she wouldn't take it out because it meant something else

It's a slur, against disabled people Hmm

britneyisfree · 03/08/2022 11:42

@alnawire I realise now that's what she's saying! I meant until I saw the article I didn't. I thought it must be some weird sex thing or something.... obviously now I see I got that wrong, and so did she.

I don't get why two songs would suddenly have it. Upsetting

Just so odd though. It doesn't make me think "good old Beyonce for taking it out" but rather "what idiots the whole team behind the album are that it was ever in" especially given it's just a rerun of the story with Lizzo. Not sure I subscribe to the idea that all publicity is good publicity.

Danikm151 · 04/08/2022 21:11

I listened today… didn’t like it. I was so disappointed there are no wow songs. It all feels like one song and like Beyonce couldn’t be bothered to sing and just talks with a bit of a tune.

debbrianna · 04/08/2022 21:16

It's one song for reason. That's what I loved about. It's what makes her shows great. It's how she is the ultimate master at blending her songs. They are never random. On stage or on album. I think it's cleaver becuase it stops you from skipping. Genius!
