Please recommend me a decent Cornet!

Hi, my 7 year old is passionate about music and has asked for a cornet...

Just wondering if anybody would kindly advise me!

Has he got a teacher? I would ask the teacher.

However, I’d suggest you consider hiring from your local music service for the first year to see if it’s worth making the investment.

I'd ask the teacher, I've been out of the loop with newer brass instruments for the better part of 15 years but the Yamaha and Besson cornets were always the most popular as an economical choice (circa £500) or more expensive choice (circa £1500).

Your music teacher should be able to tell you the best option for a cheap, mid-range or expensive cornet these days.

There is no teacher yet... He tried it in the summer time and fell in love. I couldn't justify getting him one really, so found one on ebay, a blessing. It arrives tomorrow. £40!!

Teacher first, instrument second. Trying to play what could be a horrific instrument (if bought sight unseen from eBay) without even some idea of how to do it may put him off.

The prob is he's v musical, plays piano and drums and is completely in love with music. He's really impatient and won't wait for his adult teeth to grow in. It was the only thing he asked for this year so I felt I couldn't dismiss getting him one....

Ive explained he won't be able to make a noise yet until his teeth are grown in and he doesn't care. He just wants his cornet....
