Proms 2019

Thread for people who have heard any of this year's Proms or are interested in discussing what's coming up to talk with each other. Or if you just want to talk about the Proms in general that would be nice too.

Really enjoying tonight's prom. I'm slightly behind so we've just had the second work which was a new piece by a Finnish composer (so many talented Finns these last 30 years or so) which was absolutely haunting, evocative and beautiful.

Highlights so far for me: another Finnish musician doing the Sibelius violin concerto. Never heard it played like he did - very individual interpretation. He's the guy who got the audience singing a Finnish folk song a couple of years ago. Glagolitic Mass in the 1st prom was also awesome. Enjoyed the planets as ever but think there were tuning issues. I also liked the dance themed prom.

But top top performance for me so far was the Bavarian Symphony Orchestra playing Rosencavalier. They just totally went for it! I love it anyway and you've just got to embrace the whole overblown gorgeousness and throw yourself into it and they totally did. The audience, understandably, went wild. And even listening at home I found myself with a big dopey smile on my face. Just great.

Oh no! They're all on the BBC sounds app if that helps. I've been plugging into it through my phone while I'm at work and listening through headphones but I guess it depends on your job if you can do that.

We usually watch but have been at festivals, it's the busiest time for musicians. We usually catch up at the end.
