How far can I get on clarinet without a teacher?

I played clarinet I think to grade 2 in primary, then switched instruments and did piano and oboe. I didn't get vary far (5) but I seem to have remembered how to read music.
I've picked up the clarinet again and am loving it- worked through the Wastall book grades 1-3 and am feeling more confident. I'm just wondering how far I can go before I need a teacher? And what are good books to keep going with on my own?
Ideally I'd like to get good enough to play with a small local band for fun.
All advice welcome - I'm loving playing again!

I would get a teacher as soon as possible as good technique is invaluable and will stop you developing bad habits that can be difficult to undo later on. Good luck!

I played all through high school and beyond with only a couple of lessons on flute. Obviously you will be better with a teacher but playing in a group teaches you loads too. I have loads of bad habits but make an ok sound! Still play at church occasionally and noone has complained! ( Maybe they are too polite!) Go for it, when you feel your technique is holding you back get some lessons but be prepared to have to go back to basics a bit.
