Instrument advice for left hander

SarahSiddons · 02/05/2018 18:33

My Y3 child will soon need to decide what instrument to learn in Y4. They get to choose 3 preferences and are matched up, presumably on the basis of popularity / availability.

I wondered if anyone had any advice on instruments that suit (or don’t suit) left handers?

They’ve told me they like: drums, guitar, flute.

Thank you

You can have a guitar strung the opposite way BUT they all require 2 hands and it's a new skill so it doesn't matter Confused

Thank you.

Interesting point about the fingering for wind instruments. I learned the flute at school (I never practiced enough to be any good though!) and although it’s usefully small to transport it’s not my favourite instrument in terms of sound and so many people play it but actually you don’t need many in orchestras / bands.

I am hoping I might be able to guide them in a particular direction (although I don’t know why I’m optimistic as my influencing skills haven’t worked on many other things!)
