Dd1 6 is desperate for a ukulele but I'm clueless. The pinnacle of my musical education was being asked to leave recorder class at school. Is this a good idea, how much do I need to spend, could she learn from youtube? She's in a rock band at school and is playing gituar there so I think has the basics but isn't learning to read music. Thank you

We have two ukulele at home, both gifts, so I don't know how much you'd spend. Not very much, I think, in general. DC learn from youtube and printed off chords from the internet - they have them as pictures of tabs so you don't need to be able to read music (though DC can read music). And we are haunted by ukulele noises all day and all night, more or less...

They cost about £15. DD (11) has been playing the last 3-4 years and plays in a ukulele band, singing and strumming. It’s all very lovely, low key & good fun.

She’s recently been playing the bass ukulele which is another element to it.
