Help me find which piano piece this is?

BBC Sense and sensibility, Episode one, there is a scene where Marianne plays a piano piece, and I'd like to learn it but can't figure out what it is. It's the piece she plays during the first dinner they're invited to in Devonshire, when they all first meet Colonel Brandon?
It's not Marianne's song, and I believe it's a classic but can't be sure.
If anyone knows the name of the piece, please tell me, I can't get it out of my head and I'd love to play it!

Is the BBC version the TV episodes or the film with Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson etc?

Somethingfantastic89 · 15/12/2017 09:23

The TV mini-series (2008)

You Tube suggests this, which is rather lovely.

The comments mention sheet music being available too.

did you see the comments under the vid posted by inchyrablue? If that one isn't the piece, this might help, although it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Google suggests Beethoven Piano Sonata No 21 in C Major?:

"Hi, does anyone know the other piece played by Marianne in this movie? It was the first song she played at the assembly in Barton Park, and Colonel Brandon criticized her... ?

REPLY
Piano Sonata No.16 Movement 2, k545+Sima Krechmer"

Only half read! Sorry.

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies. I've checked all those pieces, but the one I'm talking about isn't there :(
If you have netflix (or DVD etc), it's in Episode 1, at 34:25 minutes.
I'm trying to see if I can find the clip on youtube to paste it here.

Ok found it on youtube, it's the whole episode but just go to 36:47 minutes, that's the piece I'm trying to find.

Somethingfantastic89 · 16/12/2017 11:01

Imo it doesnt sound like Mozart or anything classical. Martin Phipps did the music for the TV series I think, so it could be something by him but I can't find a full track listing online.

Somethingfantastic89 · 16/12/2017 11:45

I thought the same ren but I couldn't find it in any of Martin Phipps' tracks, plus the commentary/subtitle in the episode says "plays tranquil classical music" Grin so I thought maybe it's classical.

Grin yes, I think it's definitely classical, but not of that period (Mozart etc) if that makes sense. Like MP wrote it in the style of Mozart etc. This really isn't meant to be as patronising as I'm sure it sounds, I am terrible at explaining myself!

I share your pain though, I find it so annoying when you find something on TV/film and you have to know what it is and you just draw blanks.

Somethingfantastic89 · 16/12/2017 16:04

Don't worry ren not patronising at all.
I think you might be right, and since I can't find any lists online, i might have to email the BBC Grin

To me, it sounds like a modern piece written recently to sound like period music.

nhgirl771 · 19/04/2020 21:49

I would also like to know what that beautiful piece is. Has anyone located the name of the piece and or sheet music for it? Thanks.
