Does anyone else use this ?

I am using it as a way to improve my practically non existant sight reading skills and a fun alternate to the books I am also using.

Just on finishing the sixth out of the fourteen modules. It is fun :)

Take it I am the only one using this app, lol.

Finished another couple of modules...finished ten, four to go.

I picked up one of my music books and it seemed slightly easier to play, so I must be learning something !

2.5 modules to go !

I am finding it harder now the music is faster !
So I am replaying the song from the start, just to get an idea of how far I have come in a few short weeks and practise the songs I scraped through and then go back to the two fast songs on the end of module 12.

Finish module 12 with Game of Thrones, now on Bond theme tune on module 13.

Also 'Father's Favourite is nearly recognisable at parts I will keep practising. :)

I've never heard of this app. Did you pay for it?

Marking my place. App sounds interesting.

LaurieFairyCake · 18/11/2017 11:34

Also marking

Rach5l · 18/11/2017 11:40

Does it teach you piano?

Babieseverywhere · 18/11/2017 15:55

Yes, it teaches you piano.

You can get a week free but makes sure to unclick the autorenew on Google play or it will charge you.

I complained that there wasn't a monthly membership option and they offered me a discount for the first three months membership which I thankfully took. So I paid £15 for three months...full price £30.

I am really enjoying it. My 11yo daughter and DH are learning on it too. My 7 yo daughter has played a few of the earlier lessons and enjoyed it.

I am up to changing hand positions from D, C and F ! I am stuck. Will try again tomorrow.

Highly recommend it. If you have played a piano before you will wizz through the earlier modules !

NB. It is designed to be used with a piano or keyboard. It can 'hear' via your phone's speakers or we bought a cheap midi to mini usb connection lead which cost us £8
That means we can play our digital piano with headphones on and not annoy the neighbours !

Our lead looks very like this one but was £8

OP thank you for the running commentary- it's really useful.

I'm looking for something to recommend to a friend of mine who has self-taught from little musical experience. Zero manuscript awareness but an amazing musical ear.

I've suggested the basics as a way of bridging the gap in his knowledge (finger positions, chords etc, major and minor differences etc) but don't know how to advise him further.

Would this app help?

Babieseverywhere · 09/01/2018 10:02

I would suggest he gets the free trial week and see he thinks. I am not a good judge as I am a beginner myself.

Any how. Thanks to chicken pox. I have not had piano time recently. So hope to get back to the keyboard this evening...children permitting.

Hi! I just googled the Simply Piano app to read reviews, and found this really useful. I got a digital piano for Xmas and haven't gotten very far with learning how to play so far. I am new to playing music full stop, but so far this app is brilliant! I have only just completed the free portion of the app - so will have to sign up for the Premium version now - but it sounds like it's going to be money well-spent! The only thing slightly misleading is that it says 'cancel anytime' on the sign-up page, but if you take out the £4.99 / month rate, I presume you are locked in for a year, totalling £59.88?

Babieseverywhere · 26/02/2018 08:00

I emailed the developers are pointed that out. As a monthly membership would work better for me...rather than pay up front. They offered me a one off discount on a three month membership.

BrightnSparkly · 26/02/2018 11:34

That's good to know, as it's very difficult to judge just from the basics course how long it'll take to get through the entire course, and become an adept player. And I understand that they add new material. Did you find that you could learn how to both read music and play piano just by using the app alone? Did it start delving into using pedals?

Babieseverywhere · 26/02/2018 14:06

No pedals yet. They have had two more modules as I have been learning. So I am now two modules from the end, not one !

Not had chance to play recently with kids home...going to have another go tonight :)

I've just finished the 7 day free trial and love the app. Got through Essentials 1 and 2 before the trial ran out. Have just emailed them about a month by month option as paying in blocks is just too big an ask at this time of year :(

Rosamy · 01/06/2019 21:02

@FancypantsJen did you have any success with getting a discount or a month by month option?

Neeckky · 20/05/2020 16:27

Our son has basic piano lessons as part of their kindergarten curriculum. We bought the app last year, with one year subscription! He only used it for about a week! 😓.
And during this covid times he revisited the app (subscription still active) and has been playing a lot! It made us realized that he is interested in piano and now we are thinking of making him take piano lessons when covid ends. We are just simply happy that he can play music even not as perfect as the one formally taught. He is doing self study so we can see discipline and interest! He is just 6yrs old anyways.
This is his 3month progress
