Every time I hear it (ds watching it on TV, ds playing it on uke, ds playing it on piano) it sounds vaguely Yiddish.

Why?

Is it Yiddish influenced? Is there a similar Yiddish song?

I think it's because it's referencing east End/ Whitechapel London.

StepAwayFromCake · 01/08/2017 17:47

But only some of the stories relate to the East End.

Confused Do I have to provide evidence and quotations? Lots of the stories are set in the underbelly of London and this music references this, including a pub piano.

No, Dawned, you don't. Smile I'm just proving my ignorance here. Sherlock, as you may notice from my OP, is very much ds's obsession, not mine. I've watched a handful of episodes with him, purely in the interest of mother-son bonding, and they weren't set in the EE, nor did they have anything even vaguely Jewish in them.

I guess for the purposes of accessibility/ up to dateness/ marketing the current series and films very much focus on the dramatic and seediness rather than say Holmes the intellectual violinist going to stately homes Smile
They're very readable and accessible, there are a couple of novels but lots of short stories if you want to read to bond with him.

It sounds very similar to the theme music to Dexter weirdly.

I have the Sherlock companion book!

It doesn't say anything about any particular influence but it does mention having signature music for various moments and how they worked out it with an orchestra.

According to this, there's some influence from other TV show themes?
