Friday I'm in love

At a ripe old age, ive just discovered The Cure! Well, sort of - I had Friday I'm in Love on the playlist for my wedding, but I bought the greatest hits for a recent long car journey and I just love it.
There's something about their music I find really calming (good for driving) and I love the dreamy quality of the lyrics.... Sigh.... Anyway, anyone want to talk to me about the Cure?

Love love love the cure. One of my favourites is 'the only one' - sweet, sexy, lovely song.

I wrote to Robert Smith when I was about 12 (early 80s) and he wrote back!!

I still sleep in an ancient Cure t shirt.

I like a lot of their early heavier stuff, Three Imaginary Boysis an awesome tune.

I have loved the cure since the early 80s
Dh was the double of Robert smith when I met him
Pornography is my favourite album

A forest is my favourite cure song

RiverTam that's so nice! I love the fact that the girl in the Just Like Heaven video is his wife.
It's clear to me now that I need to properly investigate their back catalogue...

They've been together since they were teenagers I think (is he still married to Mary? I hope so!).

A Forest is good. Stonking baseline.

Like Cockatoos from Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me. Oh, and Charlotte Sometimes, which I think you can only get on the compilation Standing on a Beach.

And don't firget he was briefly in Siouxsie and the Banshees, check out Nocturne.

Leeloo2 · 07/10/2016 09:15

Oooh, rivertam, what did Robert say to you? (if it's not private!).

I've loved the cure since the late 90s and when you know the songs it's amazing how much their music is used as incidental music on TV shows, so it's more 'popular' than people realise.

In-between days is probably my favourite, altho I love almost all of it. :)

Leeloo2 · 07/10/2016 09:17

The Glove is also v worth listening to (lovely Robert and Steve Severin from Siouxie collaboration).

My favourite is "Close to You". I love how upbeat and quirky it is. Always makes me happy.

My small children love them too. We have occasional dance sessions.

RiverTam · 07/10/2016 09:36

I have absolutely no recollection if what it said! I think a friend must have the letter, a few of us sent it together. It was a highlight of my youth! We also saw their 'last' gig at the Crystal Palace Bowl, a crap venue if ever there was one.

Leeloo2 · 07/10/2016 09:40

Oh no river, I'd imagined it'd be framed on your wall (and every syllable committed to memory!). ;-)

Onedaftmonkey · 07/10/2016 09:44

Ooooo I loved the cure. Their unplugged on mtv was outstanding. Going now to hunt down my cd's and have a goth day .

The title of your thread made me smile Gardenbirdy, love the Cure Smile

Merrylegs · 07/10/2016 09:52

Ah so many good melodies. I vote for The Caterpillar as one of my faves. Oh and Pictures of You (sob) And of course Love Cats is the ultimate indie disco tune. Marvellous.

Gardenbirdy · 07/10/2016 10:28

I've just watched the A Forest video on YouTube - shocked to see Robert Smith with no makeup on!!
