Let's share the ukulele love again

I have just had another brilliant evening with the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. They are just wonderful.

How are all the MN ukulele learners getting on? I have, erm, stalled so my chances of joining the UOGB are minimal.

They are fab...actually was thinking about doing a Ukulele quiche thread on chat on a Wednesday so peeps could practice a song together or shar a video for that week..what do you think?

I may have just ahem splurged on one of these to go along with my Lanikai

Perfect timing! DH has bought me a beautiful purple Mahalo but as my entire musical repertoire to date is pease pudding hot, on the recorder, about 40 years ago I think the learning curve may be quite steep!

I've just come on to ask about ukulele strings, nice to see this at the top of the topic! :)

I'm a new ukulele player; ds got one for Easter and I was completely besotted with it, so then got myself one too. His is a soprano, I got myself a concert.
I'm having problems finding strings I like. I want a low g tuning, I got the Aquila low-g ones and hated the feel of them (especially the wound g), but liked the sound of the low g.
So I then tried to find a set with unwound low g, but there's not much out there.
I then read that you could buy a regular set of strings and put them on in a different order so that the thickest string (normally C) was used for the low G etc.
Bought some D'addario strings, did exactly that, but the tension was all wrong and the low g pinged off .

I've now got another set of D'addario ones on - regular tuning titanium, but I'm not happy with them either, partly because of the high G, and partly because they are a bit too "jangly" sounding - I like a bit more mellow.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Ds has got a much cheaper ukulele with the original (crappy) strings on it and it sounds much nicer than mine, AND they stay in tune longer!
Local music shop had bugger all (am not in the UK, and ukulele love has not quite taken off in Germany yet), so I'm relying on the internet, but I really don't know what to get.

@ Kitchen I must admit I read your post and just thought wha'????

I thought I was posh because I got some Aquila strings (which I need DH to show me how to change) so I'm afraid I'm no help at all. Hope someone who knows their stuff passes this way....
