Calling old folkies!

Hi,

As an inveterate old folk enthusiast and musician I reckon my kids are starting to be old enough to be properly welcomed into the fold! So I was thinking of compiling a CD of 'essential' folk songs for them.

If I have let's say 15 songs to play with...what would come top of your list? Not talking about children's folk songs - they've been subjected to those since being in the womb:) - but still fairly accessible.

Got as far as thinking a couple of protest songs (say Where have all the flowers gone?, Last night I had the strangest dream), some feminist songs (Gonna be an Engineer), some 'trad' songs (Wild Mountain Thyme). But have got stuck!!

TIA

Historical ones eg Harriet Tubman or Blackleg Miner?
Or general classics (for me anyway):
Wild Rover
Whiskey in the jar

aha! I was starting to fear that there were no old folkies on MN:) Thank you, those are great suggestions esp blackleg miner - I remember my dad singing that one to me!
