rolling stones at olympics?

Can anyone tell me why The Rolling Stones, arguably the biggest band ever to come out of London, were not included in the opening or closing ceremonies of London 2012? Seems bizarre...

I read that they were asked and said no

Yes but they didn't even feature any of the Stones' music, unlike other artists who weren't there, like David Bowie.
