Hi, my 7 year old daughter absoluitly loves music. She has unusual taste for her age too. I'd like to buy her some C.D that I think she'll like. If I tell you what she's into, maybe you could suggest something else on these lines.

Jeff Buckly (especially hallelujah and Corpus Christi carol)

Tori Amos (under the pink and little earthquakes)

Joanie Mitchel (Ladies of the canyon)

Eva cassidy ( although certain songs make her cry)

She likes some folk rock music like Runrig etc.

There's probubly loads more, but this is what she likes at the moment. She's also very into musicals especially Phantom of the opera, Jesus Christ superstar and Les Mis.

If you could think of anything else we could try, I'd be really greatful. Music is a huge part of her life. Smile

There is also quite a lot of classical music she likes.

The only thing I can think of that would maybe fit from my music collection is the Carpenters. Not really the "Greatest Hits" stuff but more the album only songs - is one of my favourites for example.

As for musicals (Les Mis is my favourite - your dd has great taste Grin) has she heard Cats, Wicked or Hairspray?

You could also point her in the direct of the old musicals - my sister has adored all these since she was little - Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Singing in the Rain etc. My sister currently has a Fred and Ginger obsession and when she was a teenager it was Doris Day!

Oh wow! This is beautiful! I'm sure she'd love this. I'm ordering it from Amazon now. Grin

She saw singing in the rain when she was about 2. I'm not sure what she thought of it. WE could try that again. I'll try her with the carpenters too. I like that. Smile

What folk-rock? Things like Oysterband? Levellers? Don Maclean? One of my faves is Megson (sort of cross between folk and Eva C - in terms of vocals anyway) Bellowhead are fab modern folk with all sorts of influences (but lots of old trad songs with only some of the lyrics ok content-wise for that age!)

Has she come across Glee yet?

mummyloveslucy · 08/03/2012 20:34

Yes, she likes the Levellers and Runrig, these are the only ones she's heard. She also likes The corrs.

Oh no, she hasn't come across Glee yet. Is it good?

I adore Alison Moyet version of a classic folk song - The Wraggle Taggle Gypsies. The whole of Moyet's album 'Voice' is worth listening to to see if it suits.

If she likes Jeff Buckley and musicals, I reckon she'd love Rufus Wainwright.

An off the wall one: Slim Cessna's Auto Club. They're sort of Americana style of music.

Kate rusby, regina spector and jeff buckley are my fab three - so maybe those two, kate is folk, and regina is a bit more mainstream these days, but is a kind of kitch piano pop.
