Can anyone recommend any good similar acoustic folk type artists?

I was watching the Newsnight Culture show a few weeks back and they ended with a 17 or 18 year old artist. I was about to turn it off because I thought it would be some kind of trendy rap music etc.

I kept it on and was blown away by it. Does anyone know any similar type of artists doing good acoustic stuff similar to this?

Can't seem to watch your clip, but folky acoustic music always makes me think of Suzanne Vega. I love her stuff.

twolittlemonkeys · 22/02/2012 19:20

Oh yes, Tom McRae is fab.

claig · 22/02/2012 19:22

Thanks Pavlov, never heard of him, but love it. Just heard Boy with the Bubblegun, haunting tune and great vocals.

Ron Sexsmith. Canadian singer - songwriter. A big talent.

claig · 22/02/2012 19:44

Thanks hairypotter. Sizanne Vega rings a bell. Just heard Luka. I know that song but couldn't put a name to the artist. It is greta stuff, a bit like Alanis Morisette or Cheryl Crow to my ear and I like both of those too.

Thanks, HumphreyCobbler. Just listened to some Miranda Sykes. She is great, lots of different influences and unique style. Love the bass and cello (I think it is) as well.

If you like Seth Lakeman, take a look at and Jim Causley also from Devon. is a label to look out for.

If you like an Irish blues tinge try Probably the best night out I had last year was at their gig, like having a session in your front room with a few mates over.

For hurdy gurdy fantasticness try
