Anyone else a vinyl junkie?

I'm pretty sure this thread will go down like a lead balloon but worth asking-

Anyone else here really into still buying music on vinyl - old or new? I don't know any other women who are and the only parents I know are men. I gave up buying CD's ages ago and now pretty much stick to only vinyl (with the occasional mp3 purchase for something very new on a small label or something rare that won't be repressed)

Thread was inspired by the Depeche Mode thread and realise that even though I was only born in 1982, my favourite decade of music has to be the 80's. So much scope for amazing music and hidden gems - post punk, new wave, chicago, acid house etc etc etc

I like buying new releases on vinyl. Plus, it seems to be increasingly common to include an mp3 download with the vinyl release, which is the best combination.

It was the new Battles album, Gloss Drop. Have been listening to it on mp3 (don't currently have a record player , waiting to replace it)

I'm not the vinyl junkie in the house but DP has cupboards and shelves and half the garage full of records, and spends evening upon evening perfecting his turntable/speaker/amp set-up. And weirdly enough we're just listening to that Battles album on vinyl now :)

Don't buy vinyl except at the jumble sale, but still only listen to music on the record player. My kids are the only ones in school who know how to put a record on.

But then I do like the old stuff best.... (Bee Gees fan here...)

I buy vinyl whenever I see something I like. When it's cheap :o
In the Galleries Lafayette last year I was sorely tempted by some brand-new vinyl, but it's so expensive. Charity shops are the way.

I've bought lots of ELO over the last couple of years. I was brought up with my parents' record player spinning, and my mum has collected lots of Beatles LPs, so there's a collection all ready made.
Mine at present probably numbers 60-70 LPs and 10-20 45s, but doesn't take up much room. I only buy it because I like the music- I won't turn into one of these car boot sale vultures who are fluent in the mint-very good-good language and never listen to them in case they get scratched. I like cassettes too. CDs, I'll buy, but if they're new, only once in a very long while. I work at a charity shop, so windfalls are happy days with the discount :)

Does anyone come ever across "floppy vinyl"? I like this stuff- it's very very thin plastic. Apparently you could get them on the back of cereal packets and things. I have some in an envelope which is dated 1960, which I think is v. v. cool!

can you still buy new vinyl? i hated them as i used to scratch them all the time. dp still has alot but even he has switched to mostly cd

Yes, but it was about £30 for one. They were all shrinkwrapped and everything- I think the nice old musty smell belongs to them! And the little background scrabbling sounds.

SEA - yes, you can buy loads of it. A lot of indie releases are still released on vinyl.

my name is lilybloom and I'm a vinyl junkie. Feels, looks and soounds so much better than mp3. I love the crackle. I can be very anal about my vinyl. Its catalogued in alphabeticala and chronological order and no else touches it except me. It is the only thing in the house I'm precious about.
