I am a bit of a beginner but I am going to a Dolly Parton concert in a few weeks, I love the old classics but would like to hear some more contemporary artists. Who is good?

Sugarland, Tim Mcgraw, Josh Turner. Lady Antebellum, Keith Urban.

If you like Dolly you will love Sugarland.

midnightexpress · 13/05/2011 13:08

Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings.

PoppaRob · 13/05/2011 13:17

Definitely Sugarland, Lady Antebellum and Keith Urban. I'd add Alison Moorer and Alison Krauss. If she's open to Aussie country singers maybe try Gina Jeffreys, Beccy Cole and Sara Storer too.

CaptainBarnacles · 13/05/2011 13:19

YY to Gillian Welch and David Rawlings.

Open iplayer and listen to Bob Harris on Radio 2. Thursday is jsut country and he plays a mix of old and new, late night Saturday is all sorts of music but often includes some contemporary country. You can also catch the concert that Alison Krauss did on Thursday. I'm more into Folk but I do like a bit of Bluegrass :)

MisterDarsey · 14/05/2011 18:35

I'm not that up to date but if you're looking for something a bit more 'edgy' I would recommend any of these:

Dixie Chicks
Alison Krauss
Gillian Welch
Allison Moorer
Lucinda Williams

Also new Robert Plant album Band of Joy is really good

southeastastra · 14/05/2011 18:37

also dixie chicks

AimingForSerenity · 14/05/2011 18:38

BrawToken · 14/05/2011 18:44

Thanks for all the replies. I would have been back sooner but a D&V bug hit the dcs so I have been washing bedding and mopping tortured brows all weekend.

I will check out the Bob Harris on iplayer. I put the sugarland playlist on youtube and am really enjoying it. Makes a nice change from eurovision. I will work my way through the other suggestions.

I am going to Beverley Folk Festival in June Indith. My dcs despair, they really do.
