Ex-Simple Minds

Did you Mumsnetters notice that Derek Forbes and Brian McGee have been going round playing the early Simple Minds albums as, well, ex-Simple Minds Grin for a while?
It's not been very well advertised I thought... They're on fb ("like" them to get no news!) and Youtube but virtually no mention of it anywhere else. I keep on saying to DP that I don't understand the lack of excitement about that - but he's just baffled that I'm baffled Grin
The thing being that SM have pretty much stopped playing their beautiful early stuff live... And Forbes and McGee were behind those great first albums; I'd love to see them play.
XSM did a tour in September, which I missed, but then their last 2 gigs were cancelled, and the singer seems to have left too (oh well, I never was too mad of his shouting singing) so it's not looking good, is it?
Anybody knows what's going on then? Looks like they've lost interest. Let's wake them up! Grin
Or is it just me in my battle to hear Real to Real Cacophony live...

I saw them last year at Darwen Live.

Ah. Simple Minds. Such memories. Late for a gig, pissing down outside, ran in, Jim sang " Come in, come out of the rain...."

To ME. And about 10,000 other people. Grin

Ah yes upahill , it's on YouTube! What did you think?
I think they toured quite a bit last year and sort of split up in December just when I was going to go see them.
I'm sure going round playing old stuff only, well, it must feel like nobody is expecting you to come up with anything new and interesting anymore, and it might get a bit depressing...
They should make fewer concerts, but with more publicity maybe. I found out about XSM by idly googling and going from links to links over a few days... Really, it should have been all over the papers Grin

Yes taffetacat Jim was definitely reaching out to YOU Grin I saw them too, in 89! but it does wind me up, the way they have to make all songs extra long and majorly different to the album version... and really I only like the old stuff, the one I was slightly too young to be into the first time round.
SM is playing in June. I might go. I probably won't.
Oh, and there are so many absolute gems on YouTube, did you see?? Old demos of songs... ancient interviews... I've only found out quite recently...

Well!
I was going to say that it looks like my DP was right after all, and that XSM on tour is not the Big Story I thought it was, but all that is overshadowed by the fact that...

... they have announced a new date!

They're playing Nantwich Music Festival on 23 April.

(All gets announced on fb - for those who want to know.)

So they haven't split up...
I will hear those beautiful songs... Everything is ok...
I am happy now! Smile
