Ok, I have searched other threads but have not found exactly what I am after. I like stuff that matches the description above. Nothing too "stripped bare", one man and a guitar would not do! Has to make your spine tingle and make you cry, but be loud enough too. Any ideas as I want to expand my ipod selection?

dreamylady has beaten me to it with the Low recommendation. They are the boss of harmonies. The Great Destroyer is their loudest album, if you're looking for loud, and includes that Robert Plant covered on his last album (apparently - I haven't heard it).

You might like .

Scala did one great album, can't find any links for it but it's excellent (ex-Seefeel members).

purepurple · 05/12/2010 10:46

Also try
Nine Inch Nails
I love Trent Reznor
Also try Johhny Cash for songs that can move you to tears

dreamylady · 05/12/2010 14:51

Unprune you have a point with PJ - lovelyopaque try 'White chalk' album - really beautiful, a lot less harsh, and 'stories from the city' bigger sounds -

ooh and how about this?

for Bunnymen it has to be those strings!!!it's a live version so maybe not for purists or

lovelyopaque · 05/12/2010 18:18

joydivisionovengloves · 06/12/2010 23:42

The Weatherthans. "Fallow" or "Left and Leaving" are two great albums

Snorbs · 07/12/2010 00:14

I know you mentioned the Cocteau Twins but I didn't want to not mention one of theirs as it's one I must've listened to a dozen times over the past week.

Also, try a bit of , , and .

Finally, has anyone mentioned yet? Absolutely stunningly beautiful music and extraordinary singing talent. Eg, . The only singer I know who could give Elizabeth Fraser a run for her money.

aBrightStarWithFestiveWays · 07/12/2010 13:33

Hooray Snorbs, I never thought I'd find another Bark Psychosis fan on MN Grin

Snorbs · 07/12/2010 23:19

BrightStar, to be honest I feel much the same. Generally whenever I mention Bark Psychosis I get Confused or Hmm faces staring at me.

Wish I could find either a copy of Manman or Replay on CD, though. My old Manman vinyl is not going to last forever Sad

jonicomelately · 07/12/2010 23:23

Fleetwood Mac. I dare anybody on here to listen to 'Landslide' and not feel emotional Smile

Icoulddoitbetter · 07/12/2010 23:31

Fleet foxes

The new I am Kloot album fits the bill. Ooh, and "Gabriel" by Lamb will haunt you.

aBrightStarWithFestiveWays · 08/12/2010 12:35

Snorbs, have you seen this? . He's a big fan apparently - I think they did the whole of Hex at that gig.

lovelyopaque · 08/12/2010 17:29

Snorbs and Brightstar, am going to listen to more Bark Psychosis. I like the sound of it. Apart from anything else I love nice, long songs!
What else have we got that is a "builder" - you know gets louder? Thanks for all the suggestions btw.

Love the Band of Horses one upahill.

aBrightStarWithFestiveWays · 08/12/2010 17:43

Try some . They are one of my favourite bands ever. Their self-titled album is fantastic, or there's a new one out now called What It Means To Be Left-Handed which is also great.

They're one of those bands whose music worms its way into your mind and never lets go.

Or how about ?

Talk Talk did two brilliant Bark Psychosis-like albums, Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock.

Brightblack Morning Light]] make lovely lazy music.
aBrightStarWithFestiveWays · 08/12/2010 17:43

Pure hearbreak
