Child friendly festivals

I'm thinking a festival may be a good idea for next year.

DP hates the thought of camping and I hate portoloos.

Anyway we can do one in relative comfort cheaply!

Camp Bestival is great for children, you can take a campervan if you don't like tents, or hire a luxury yurt ( expensive), but not sure you'd be able to escape the portaloos although they were not that bad at CB.

Camp Bestival brilliant, we all had an amazing time.

Toilets fairly grim, but compost ones more bearable.

Don't let it put you off, we loved it. Very chilled.

We went to the Larmer tree festival 2 years ago with the DSs - at the time they were 2.5 & 5.

We hired a caravan (so own loo) and thank god because it bucketed down and it was like a mudbath.

It was great though - I particulary liked that it was small enough for you to be able to go to the main lawn, watch a band, and have your children play over to the side (out of speaker range) without fear of losing them.

Try Beautiful Days in Exeter. Nice and small, kids activities, you can take camper van (but book early). you won't avoid the portaloos but there were never big queues and usually quite clean.
It's a great atmosphere with no loutish behaviour and people tend to look out for kids safety IYKWIM.

Pick a smallish festival you like the sound of and look for a B&B or permanent campsite (with proper plumbing) nearby? That does up the price a bit, but being able to get a decent night's sleep and a real shower could make it worth while. You won't be able to avoid the portaloos during the day, though, wherever you go.

I did one day at the Big Chill last year so didn't camp, and day parking was much nearer the main field than if we had been camping.

end of the road (same location as larmer tree but a better line up IMO) we went when dd was 5 months.
i would only go to a festival where I was intrested in the line up.
used tangerine fields so tent, matresses etc were set up on arrival. quite nice food stalls.
yurts ant teepees were available.
oh the mud!
